(1) Background: Hip arthroplasty (HA) is a surgery that replaces the damaged hip joint with an artificial implant called a hip prosthesis. The increase in life expectancy correlated with the population aging level, to which the increase in the number of prosthetic interventions among the young population is added, translates to the imperative need to analyze the quality of life beyond the immediate postoperative period. Strict adherence to an individualized rehabilitation program (IRP), and adapted to each patient, is followed by an improved quality of life.

The connection between central obesity and the development and metastasis of various visceral tumors is largely accepted and one of the main causes seems to be the local synthesis of proangiogenic molecules. Progranulin (PRG), recently identified as an adipokine, is a novel pleiotropic growth factor acting on the proliferation and development of fast-growing epithelial cells, cancer cells, and also a proangiogenic factor whose expression is induced in activated endothelial cells. One of the molecules that seems to trigger the angiogenic activity of PRG is vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).

Out of the multiple vascular complications of diabetes, retinopathy is the easiest to diagnose and monitor as the examination of the eye fundus is an easy investigation to perform, does not require expensive medical equipment and can be repeated without any risk to the patient. The appearance of the retinal vessels, the optic nerve and the retina can provide useful information on the coronary and cerebral circulation, plasma lipid levels, renal function, and the quality of the arteries of the lower limbs. It is known that visual acuity changes variably depending on the macular alteration and may decrease when edema is installed in the macular region or is altered by the appearance of hemorrhages or the presence of foveolar neovascular tissues resulting from traction retinal detachment.

The covert or indirect type of aggression has a risk of converting in violent acts and, considering that, it is very important to identify it in order to apply effective preventive measures. In cases of psychotic patients, the risk of becoming violent is harder to predict, as even neuter stimuli may be perceived as threat and trigger aggression. Treating all the psychiatric patients as potential aggressive subjects is not the best preventive measure as only a few of them are aggressive and this measure may further enhance the stigma on mentally ill patients.

Athletes are exposed to a tremendous amount of stress, both physically and mentally, when performing high intensity sports with frequent practices, pushing numerous athletes into choose to use ergogenic aids such as caffeine or β-alanine to significantly improve their performance and ease the stress and pressure that is put onto the body. The beneficial or even detrimental effects of these so-called ergogenic aids can be appreciated through the use of numerous diagnostic tools that can analyze various body fluids. In the recent years, saliva samples are gaining more ground in the field of diagnostic as it is a non-invasive procedure, contains a tremendous amount of analytes that are subject to pathophysiological changes caused by diseases, exercises, fatigue as well as nutrition and hydration.

Oxygen-free radicals, reactive oxygen species (ROS) or reactive nitrogen species (RNS), are known by their "double-sided" nature in biological systems. The beneficial effects of ROS involve physiological roles as weapons in the arsenal of the immune system (destroying bacteria within phagocytic cells) and role in programmed cell death (apoptosis). On the other hand, the redox imbalance in favor of the prooxidants results in an overproduction of the ROS/RNS leading to oxidative stress.

While animal models for schizophrenia, ranging from pharmacological models to lesions and genetic models, are available, they usually mimic only the positive symptoms of this disorder. Identifying a feasible model of chronic schizophrenia would be valuable for studying the possible underlying mechanism and to investigate emerging treatments. Our hypothesis starts from the observation that combining ketamine with isolation could result in long-lasting neuro-psychological deficits and schizophrenia-like features; thus, it could probably be used as the first model of chronic schizophrenia that emphasizes the characteristic of having a multifactorial etiology.

Cardiovascular (CV) risk assessment charts are useful in establishing a patient therapeutic plan, but the most commonly used charts have essential limitations when applied to special populations. Our aim was to determine whether the Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation (SCORE) chart underestimates the CV risk in young patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and to promote the necessity of new risk assessment models. We conducted a prospective study in Constanta County, Romania including 70 consecutive patients ≤50 years of age, previously diagnosed with AS, without a history of established CV disease, diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease.

Cardiac involvement in systemic sclerosis has important consequences on patient survival. Myocardial fibrosis and microcirculation involvement can generate arrhythmic complications, which can be associated with a higher death risk. QT interval prolongation is considered as a risk factor for ectopic ventricular events and can be evaluated using standard short ECG recordings or 24-h Holter ECG recordings.
