The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) impacted the world and caused the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The clinical manifestations of the virus can vary from patient to patient, depending on their respective immune system and comorbidities. SARS-CoV-2 can affect patients through two mechanisms: directly by targeting specific receptors or by systemic mechanisms.

Ocular Complications of Radiotherapy in Uveal Melanoma.

The aim of this report is to present the diagnostic and therapeutic approach in a case of long standing peripheral ulcerative keratitis of a patient with already decreased visual acuity due to preexistent optic nerve partial atrophy. A 58-year-old male patient presented to our clinic with unilateral pain, photophobia, tearing and decreased visual acuity in the right eye. The symptomatology began 4 months prior to the presentation, after trauma with a vegetative corneal foreign body, for which he received treatment in another Ophthalmology Service.

COVID-19 Still Surprising Us-A Rare Movement Disorder Induced by Infection.

Background: Many neurological manifestations are part of COVID-19 infections, including movement disorders, but a clinical picture closely resembling stiff-person syndrome has not yet been described.

Case Presentation: We report a case of a stiff-person-like syndrome in the context of COVID-19 infection. A 79-year-old woman, with no prior history of diseases, presented global reversible stiffness associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection.

New Imaging Features of Multinodular and Vacuolating Neuronal Tumor Revealed by Alcohol and Illicit Drugs Consumption.

It has been almost a decade since the multinodular and vacuolating neuronal tumor (MVNT) was first described. In 2021, WHO classified it as a defined entity, and it is considered one of the glioneuronal and neuronal tumors. Due to its similarities with dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumors (DNET), some authors consider it a variant of these, ranking in the category of malformations, but genetic alterations favor a neoplastic origin.

Management of Lung Cancer Presenting with Solitary Bone Metastasis.

Non-modifiable (family history, age, genetic susceptibility) and modifiable (smoking, alcohol, acute and chronic pancreatitis, diabetes mellitus, intestinal microbiota) risk factors are involved in PC pathogenesis.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic determined the use of different research methods and investigations in the management of this novel infectious disease. The impact and development of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) at cellular level is still a challenge and many directions of investigation have been opened, a complex topic that has been explored is the bidirectional interaction between host micro-ribonucleic acids (miRNAs) and viral miRNA. The main point of this study is to analyze the transcriptional modifications induced by the viral infection at ocular level, mediated by miRNAs.

Quality-of-Life Assessment after Head and Neck Oncological Surgery for Advanced-Stage Tumours.

Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (HNSCC) is a common malignancy often diagnosed in the advanced stage with a complex negative influence on the patient's quality of life (QoL). Given its multi-modal treatment, the first step is to adequately balance the needs of the patient, and the second step includes the consultations, interventions, and care provided by the medical team, with the purpose of improving the overall management of the HNSCC. Current attempts to develop and validate quality-of-life instruments specific to cancers of the head and neck have been reported, and certain questionnaires are now available.

MRI Evolution of a Patient with Viral Tick-Borne Encephalitis and Polymorphic Seizures.

We present the case of a 25-year-old male, transferred to our clinic one week after the onset of the symptomatology, with a recent history of traveling to Turkey and Egypt.

Development and Internal Validation of a New Prognostic Model Powered to Predict 28-Day All-Cause Mortality in ICU COVID-19 Patients-The COVID-SOFA Score.

Background: The sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score has poor discriminative ability for death in severely or critically ill patients with Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admission. Our aim was to create a new score powered to predict 28-day mortality. Methods: Retrospective, observational, bicentric cohort study including 425 patients with COVID-19 pneumonia, acute respiratory failure and SOFA score ≥ 2 requiring ICU admission for ≥72 h.

Choroidal Thickness Increase after Subliminal Transscleral Cyclophotocoagulation.

Background: The purpose of this study is to estimate the success rate of subliminal transscleral cyclophotocoagulation for refractory glaucoma and to determine the correlation between the decrease in intraocular pressure and the variation in choroidal thickness. Methods: A pre−post study was conducted over a period of 3 years, including 81 eyes from 67 patients with different types of drug-refractory glaucoma who underwent subliminal transscleral cyclophotocoagulation. The variables included best-corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure and choroidal thickness.

Micropulse Transscleral Cyclophotocoagulation for Glaucoma after Penetrating Keratoplasty.

The main objective of the article was to assess the surgical outcome of micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation in patients presenting with glaucoma after penetrating keratoplasty. We conducted a retrospective study that included 26 eyes of 26 patients who presented with glaucoma after penetrating keratoplasty, and who were treated using micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation between January 2017 and December 2020. The surgeries were performed using the Iridex Cyclo G6 MicroPulse P3 Probe.

Magnetite Nanoparticles Functionalized with Therapeutic Agents for Enhanced ENT Antimicrobial Properties.

In the context of inefficient antibiotics, antibacterial alternatives are urgently needed to stop the increasing resistance rates in pathogens. This study reports the fabrication and characterization of four promising magnetite-based antibiotic delivery systems for ENT (ear, nose and throat) applications. Magnetite nanoparticles were functionalized with streptomycin and neomycin and some were entrapped in polymeric spheres.

Background: COVID-19 vaccination started in Romania in December 2020. Child vaccination started in 2021 with children aged 12-15 years in August. For children aged 5-11 years, vaccination started in January 2022.

Surgical Treatment in Silicone Oil-Associated Glaucoma.

Glaucoma is a vision threatening, not uncommon complication of eyes that have undergone pars plana vitrectomy with silicone oil endotamponade. Although most patients respond well to medical antiglaucoma therapy, there are refractory cases where surgery is required to control the intraocular pressure. This review, following a comprehensive literature search in the Medline database, aims to present the most important surgical techniques currently in use for glaucoma associated with silicone oil endotamponade and their indication depending on the mechanism of glaucoma.

Primary Bone Lesions in Rosai-Dorfman Disease, a Rare Case and Diagnostic Challenge-Case Report and Literature Review.

Rosai-Dorfman Disease (RDD), also known as sinus histiocytosis, is included in the group of rare diseases, characterized by proliferation and accumulation of histiocytes in the lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy), most often involving the cervical ganglion chains (nodal form). RDD bone involvement is rare, estimated at 10% of cases, but primary bone involvement (extranodal form), is very rare-2-8%. Usually they are solitary lesions, with multifocal primary bone manifestations being extremely rare.

Micropulse vs. continuous wave transscleral cyclophotocoagulation in neovascular glaucoma.

Neovascular glaucoma (NVG) is a refractory form of glaucoma, associated with important morbidity, for which no consensus exists regarding the optimal choice of therapy. The primary aim of our study was to compare the performances of micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (MP-TSCPC) and continuous wave transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (CW-TSCPC) in the treatment of neovascular glaucoma (NVG). A total of 24 eyes for MP-TSCPC and 22 eyes for CW-TSCPC, all with NVG were included.
