Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a distinct category of lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by the clonal expansion of mature B cells, followed by their accumulation in primary and secondary lymphoid organs. Cluster of differentiation (CD) markers such as CD79b, CD45, CD23, CD22 and CD81 serve as reliable prognostic indicators in CLL as well as the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) with its well-documented associations with various cancers. This study aims to investigate, for the first time, potential connections between HLA typing and CD marker expression in CLL.

Synchronous Breast and Colorectal Malignant Tumors-A Systematic Review.

Unlabelled: The incidence of breast and colorectal cancers is well established in studies, but the synchronous occurrence of the two types of tumors is a rarity. In general, they are discovered during screening investigations following the diagnosis of an initial tumor.

Management and Outcomes for Peritoneal Dialysis Patients Diagnosed with Abdominal Hernias.

Background/objectives: The success of peritoneal dialysis is highly dependent on the integrity of the abdominal wall. Therefore, routine examination and treatment of abdominal hernias can prevent peritoneal dialysis (PD) failure, discontinuation, and conversion to hemodialysis. In this present study, we present our examination protocol for patients proposed for PD and our attitude in treating parietal defects in patients on peritoneal dialysis.

Management of Peritoneal Dialysis-Associated Emergencies during the COVID-19 Pandemic: The Experience of a Center of Excellence.

The COVID-19 pandemic struck unexpectedly; emergency services and chronic care institutions, including dialysis centers, were overloaded. A significant problem was the care of COVID-positive patients alongside the care of chronically dialyzed patients who presented emergencies. In our hospital, which became a COVID support center for dialysis patients with severe forms of the disease, we had to care for PD patients with dialysis-related emergencies.

The carcinomas originating from the renal cortex are the most aggressive renal malignancies, with a high tendency for metastasis. Understanding the incidence of cutaneous manifestations caused by renal carcinomas is a challenge. In the first part, this article summarizes a series of factors that promote oncogenesis, invasiveness, and the ability of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) to develop secondary cutaneous manifestations.

Emergency and Elective Colorectal Cancer-Relationship between Clinical Factors, Tumor Topography and Surgical Strategies: A Cohort Study.

: The purpose of the study was to analyze the relationships among several clinical factors and also the tumor topography and surgical strategies used in patients with colorectal cancer. We designed an analytical, observational, retrospective study that included patients admitted to our emergency surgical department and diagnosed with colorectal cancer. The study group inclusion criteria were: patients admitted during 2020-2022; patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer (including the ileocecal valve); patients who benefited from a surgical procedure, either emergency or elective.

Background: Lichen planus (LP) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease of unelucidated etiology. LP immunopathogenesis is mainly governed by cytotoxic T lymphocytes that mediate an immune response in basal keratinocytes, which may transform into a reservoir of antigens able to initiate an autoimmune reaction. However, other pathogenic pathways complement these mechanisms.

Healthcare practitioners reevaluated therapeutic approaches for conditions like benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), considering the potential implications of this condition on the severity and progression of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This study aims to investigate potential correlations between SARS-CoV-2 infection severity, exacerbation of LUTS, and BPH progression.

Introduction: Metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) presents significant clinical challenges due to its heterogeneous nature and variable treatment responses. The Gustave Roussy Immune Score (GRIm-Score) has emerged as a potential biomarker for prognostication and prediction in mCRC, although its precise role remains under investigation.

Peritoneal sclerosis (PS) and its most severe form, encapsulating PS (EPS), are rare entities that can occur in various procedures (liver transplantation, intraperitoneal chemotherapy) or secondary to medications (beta-blockers); however, PS or EPS typically occur in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis as a form of renal function substitution. Medical or surgical treatments can be applied, but morbidity and mortality have high rates. This condition typically presents clinically as an intestinal obstruction caused by the inclusion of the intestinal loops in the peritoneal fibrous membrane.

Despite neutrophil involvement in inflammation and tissue repair, little is understood about their inflammatory status in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients with poor outcomes. Hence, we investigated the potential correlation between neutrophil inflammatory markers and the prognosis of ACS patients with/without diabetes and explored whether neutrophils demonstrate a unique inflammatory phenotype in patients experiencing an adverse in-hospital outcome. The study enrolled 229 ACS patients with or without diabetes.

Introduction: Secondary hyperparathyroidism, as a result of chronic kidney disease could be treated medically or surgically. When pharmacotherapy fails, patients undergo surgery - parathyroidectomy, the curative treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT). There are currently 3 accepted surgical techniques, each with supporters or opponents - total parathyroidectomy, subtotal parathyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy with immediate autotransplantation.

A Novel Algorithm for Evaluating Bone Metastatic Potential of Breast Cancer through Morphometry and Computational Mathematics.

Bone metastases represent about 70% of breast cancer metastases and are associated with worse prognosis as the tumor cells acquire more aggressive features. The selection and investigation of patients with a high risk of developing bone metastasis would have a significant impact on patients' management and survival. The patients were selected from the database of Carol Davila Clinical Nephrology Hospital of Bucharest.

CD34-Structure, Functions and Relationship with Cancer Stem Cells.

The CD34 protein was identified almost four decades ago as a biomarker for hematopoietic stem cell progenitors. CD34 expression of these stem cells has been exploited for therapeutic purposes in various hematological disorders. In the last few decades, studies have revealed the presence of CD34 expression on other types of cells with non-hematopoietic origins, such as interstitial cells, endothelial cells, fibrocytes, and muscle satellite cells.

Parathyroid Cancer-A Rare Finding during Parathyroidectomy in High Volume Surgery Centre.

: Parathyroid cancer is a very rare endocrine tumor, especially in patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism due to end stage renal disease failure. This pathology is difficult to diagnose preoperatively because it has nonspecific clinical manifestations and paraclinical aspects. Our study of the literature identified 34 reported cases of parathyroid carcinoma over the last 40 years in patients undergoing dialysis.

Hypoxia-Nitric Oxide Axis and the Associated Damage Molecular Pattern in Cutaneous Melanoma.

Hypoxia was intensively studied in cancer during the last few decades, being considered a characteristic of the tumor microenvironment. The aim of the study was to evaluate the capacity of tumor cells to adapt to the stress generated by limited oxygen tissue in cutaneous melanoma. We developed a case-control prospective study that included 52 patients with cutaneous melanoma and 35 healthy subjects.

Extraperitoneal Laparoscopic Approach in Inguinal Hernia-The Ideal Solution?

Background: After more than 20 years since laparoscopy was proposed as a solution for one of the most common surgical pathologies, inguinal hernia, the choice of an intra- or extraperitoneal approach has remained a highly debated topic.

Purpose And Objectives: This study aimed at analyzing the feasibility of the extraperitoneal approach, by routine for this team/ and answering the question of whether this type of approach can be considered a safe one. Although indications for an intra- or extraperitoneal approach largely overlap, it may also be a matter of surgeon preference in choosing one technique.
