Purpose: A direct aspiration, first pass technique (ADAPT) has been introduced as a rapid and safe thrombectomy strategy in patients with intracranial large vessel occlusion (LVO). The aim of the study is to determine the technical feasibility, safety, and functional outcome of ADAPT using the newly released large bore pHLO 0.072-inch aspiration catheter (AC; Phenox).

Autoimmune hemolytic anemia during pregnancy and puerperium: an international multicenter experience.

Relapsing or occurring de novo autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) during pregnancy or puerperium is a poorly described condition. Here, we report 45 pregnancies in 33 women evaluated at 12 centers from 1997 to 2022. Among the 20 women diagnosed with AIHA before pregnancy, 10 had a relapse.

Vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 in pregnancy during the Omicron wave: the prospective cohort study of the Italian obstetric surveillance system.

Objectives: Evidence on the effects of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant on vaccinated and unvaccinated pregnant women is sparse. This study aimed to compare maternal and perinatal outcomes of women infected with SARS-CoV-2 during the Omicron wave in Italy, according to their vaccine protection.

Methods: This national prospective cohort study enrolled pregnant women with a positive SARS-CoV-2 nasopharyngeal swab within 7 days of hospital admission between 1 January and 31 May, 2022.

Pathogenic variants in genes are involved in histone acetylation and deacetylation resulting in congenital anomalies, with most patients displaying a neurodevelopmental disorder and dysmorphism. Arboleda-Tham syndrome caused by pathogenic variants in KAT6A (Lysine Acetyltransferase 6A; OMIM 601408) has been recently described as a new neurodevelopmental disorder. Herein, we describe a patient characterized by complex phenotype subsequently diagnosed using the clinical exome sequencing (CES) with Arboleda-Tham syndrome (ARTHS; OMIM 616268).

A Novel Variant in RAD21 in Cornelia De Lange Syndrome Type 4: Case Report and Bioinformatic Analysis.

Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS) is a rare genetic disorder that affects many organs. The diagnosis of this condition is primarily clinical and it can be confirmed by molecular analysis of the genes known to cause this disease, although about 30% of CdLS patients are without a genetic diagnosis. Here we report clinical and genetic findings of a patient with CdLS type 4, a syndrome of which the clinical features of only 30 patients have been previously described in the literature.

Pediatric Minimal Change Disease and AKI following the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine: causal or incidental correlation?

The global coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic required vaccination even in children to reduce infection. We report on the development of acute kidney injury (AKI) and minimal change disease (MCD) nephrotic syndrome (NS), shortly after the first injection BNT162b2 COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech). A 12-year-old previously healthy boy was referred to our hospital with complaints of peripheral edema and nephrotic range proteinuria.

Background/aim: Lung cancer is one of the most common malignant neoplastic diseases and by far the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Recently, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have received increasing attention for playing a crucial role in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Biomarkers, such as programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) and tumor mutational burden (TMB), seemed to be helpful in selecting patients who are more likely to benefit from ICI treatment: however, their role has not yet been fully clarified.

Plazomicin against Multidrug-Resistant Bacteria: A Scoping Review.

Plazomicin is a next-generation semisynthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic that can be used to treat infections by multi-resistant bacteria. It is effective against many bacteria-producing carbapenemases or other specific hydrolases. This scoping review aims to define the role acquired by plazomicin from its approval by the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) in 2018 to the present day.

Multimodality ultrasound assessment of the spleen: Normal appearances and emergency abnormalities.

This paper summarizes the main splenic emergencies and their ultrasonographic findings to orient appropriate patient management. US requires minimal preparation time and allows to examine the parenchyma and to detect intraperitoneal fluid collections, which may be indirect evidence of solid organ injuries. In this paper, we analyze the role of B-mode, Doppler and Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound in the diagnosis of splenic emergencies, with a particular focus on splenic infarction, infection, traumatic injuries and vascular splenic anomalies.

Specific local nasal immunotherapy: Single center experience on 324 patients.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of specific local nasal immunotherapy (LNIT) in patients with allergic rhinitis.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective single-center study of 324 patients with allergic rhinitis (191 allergic to mites, 133 allergic to Grarninaceae or Parietaria pollen) treated with specific LNIT was carried out. As control group, 158 patients without allergic rhinitis were enrolled.

Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic was accompanied by an overabundance of fake news increasing the risk of developing false memories (FMs). Previous studies have shown that the relationship between fake news and FMs could be mediated by some individual variables, including attitudinal biases. We explored the role of these variables in true memories (TMs) and FMs formation, with special emphasis on vaccine- and Green Pass (GP)-related topics.

In recent years, several observations reported that intolerance of physical exertion and other cardinal symptoms in heart failure (HF) are closely related to the functionality of the right ventricular (RV), regardless of left heart. It has been demonstrated that the RV dysfunction complicates the course, aggravates the quality of life, and increases the mortality of HF patients. The present review is aimed to report tips physicians about the current therapeutic management of right HF during acute stage and chronic phase, shedding light on the RV and its failure and providing physicians with essential information for everyday clinical practice.

Smith-Magenis syndrome (SMS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by cognitive and behavioral symptoms, obesity, and sleep disturbance, and no therapy has been developed to alleviate its symptoms or delay disease onset. SMS occurs due to haploinsufficiency of the retinoic acid-induced-1 (RAI1) gene caused by either chromosomal deletion (SMS-del) or RAI1 missense/nonsense mutation. The molecular mechanisms underlying SMS are unknown.

An update on pyelonephritis: role of contrast enhancement ultrasound (CEUS).

Acute pyelonephritis (APN) is a bacterial infection causing inflammation of the kidneys. Diagnosis is usually based on clinical and laboratory findings. Imaging is required if a complication is suspected in acute pyelonephritis to assess the nature and extent of the lesions and to detect underlying causes.

Ejaculation Sparing Thulium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate: An Observational Prospective Study.

Benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) is a condition that appears with advancing age and affects 1/3 of men over 50 years, resulting in filling and emptying symptoms. One of the main limitations of endoscopic techniques for BPH is the occurrence of retrograde ejaculation. The purpose of this prospective observational study is to evaluate the efficacy and feasibility of ejaculation-sparing thulium laser enucleation of the prostate (ES-ThuLEP) in the treatment of BPH-related LUTS and the preservation of ejaculation.
