Background: Thrombosis with cardiovascular involvement is a crucial complication in COVID-19 infection. COVID-19 infects the host by the angiotensin converting enzyme-2 receptor (ACE2r), which is expressed in endothelial cells too. Thus, COVID-related thrombotic events might be due to endothelial dysfunction.

Finding reliable parameters to identify patients with heart failure (HF) that will respond to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) represents a major challenge. We and others have observed post-translational modifications of Ryanodine Receptor (RyR) in several tissues (including skeletal muscle and circulating lymphocytes) of patients with advanced HF. We designed a prospective study to test the hypothesis that RyR1 glycation in circulating lymphocytes could predict CRT responsiveness in patients with non-ischemic HF.

Introduction: Cardiac amyloidosis (CA) is an infiltrative cardiomyopathy and a common cause of heart failure with preserved and mid-range ejection fraction (HFpEF and HFmrEF). Left ventricular (LV) systolic assessment is pivotal in differential diagnostic and prognostic stratification in CA. However, nondeformation and deformation-based parameters classically implied had many limitations.

Purpose: To validate a qualitative imaging method using magnetic resonance (MR) for predicting placental accreta spectrum (PAS) in patients with placenta previa (PP).
Method: Two MR imaging methods built in our previous experience was tested in an external comparable group of sixty-five patients with PP; these methods consisted of presence of at least one (Method 1) or two (Method 2) of the following abnormal MR imaging signs: intraplacental dark bands, focal interruption of myometrial border and abnormal placental vascularity. Three groups of radiologists with different level of expertise evaluated MR images: at least 5 years of experience in body imaging (Group 1); at least 10 (Group 2) or 20 (Group 3) years of experience in genito-urinary MR.

Background & Aims: Recent studies have verified that the SARS-CoV-2 infection (from December 2019 has affected 123 million people throughout the world and more than 3 million people in Italy), can have medium-term and long-term effects, collectively referred to as "post-Covid syndrome" or "long-Covid" characterized by chronic fatigue, followed by muscle weakness, dyspnea and headache. Chronic fatigue or chronic tiredness is a persistent symptom both in patients who have experienced a severe infection and in those who have experienced a mild form of infection. Studies conducted on both patients discharged from hospital and patients managed at home showed that there was no association between the severity of the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and the subsequent chronic fatigue symptom.

This study aims to identify baseline medications that, as a proxy for the diseases they are dispensed for, are associated with increased risk of mortality in COVID-19 patients from two regions in Spain and Italy using real-world data. We conducted a cross-country, retrospective, observational study including 8570 individuals from both regions with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection between 4 March and 17 April 2020, and followed them for a minimum of 30 days to allow sufficient time for the studied event, in this case death, to occur. Baseline demographic variables and all drugs dispensed in community pharmacies three months prior to infection were extracted from the PRECOVID Study cohort (Aragon, Spain) and the Campania Region Database (Campania, Italy) and analyzed using logistic regression models.

Transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR-CA) is a systemic disorder resulting from the extracellular deposition of amyloid fibrils of misfolded transthyretin protein in the heart. ATTR-CA is a life-threatening disease, which can be caused by progressive deposition of wild type transthyretin (wtATTR) or by aggregation of an inherited mutated variant of transthyretin (mATTR). mATTR Is a rare condition transmitted in an autosomal dominant manner with incomplete penetrance, causing heterogenous phenotypes which can range from predominant neuropathic involvement, predominant cardiomyopathy, or mixed.

Cardiac amyloidosis is an infiltrative disorder caused by transthyretin or immunoglobulin free light-chain deposition, which determines clinical disease with similar phenotype but different time course, prognosis and therapy. Multimodality imaging is the cornerstone for disease diagnosis and management. Multimodality imaging has revolutionized the approach to the disease favoring its awareness and simplifying its diagnosis, especially in ATTR cardiac amyloidosis.

Fabry disease (FD, OMIM 301500) is an X-linked lysosomal storage disease caused by pathogenic variants in the GLA gene. Cardiac involvement is common in FD and is responsible for impaired quality of life and premature death. The classic cardiac involvement is a nonobstructive form of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, usually manifesting as concentric left ventricular hypertrophy, with subsequent arrhythmogenic intramural fibrosis.

Takotsubo syndrome is an acute reversible heart failure syndrome, most frequently seen in postmenopausal women and precipitated generally by significant emotional stress or physical illness. A sudden sympathetic activation seems to play a key role in the pathophysiology, but growing evidence is emerging about the role of inflammation in the subacute and chronic phases. An incidence of life-threatening complications occurring in the acute phase and at long-term follow-up has been demonstrated, comparable with the acute coronary syndrome.

Major adverse cardiac events, defined as death or myocardial infarction, are common causes of perioperative mortality and major morbidity in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. Reduction of perioperative cardiovascular risk in relation to non-cardiac surgery requires a stepwise patient evaluation that integrates clinical risk factors, functional status and the estimated stress of the planned surgical procedure. Major guidelines on preoperative cardiovascular risk assessment recommend to establish, firstly, the risk of surgery per se (low, moderate, high) and the related timing (elective vs.

BackgroundThere is considerable variability in COVID-19 outcomes among younger adults, and some of this variation may be due to genetic predisposition.MethodsWe combined individual level data from 13,888 COVID-19 patients (n = 7185 hospitalized) from 17 cohorts in 9 countries to assess the association of the major common COVID-19 genetic risk factor (chromosome 3 locus tagged by rs10490770) with mortality, COVID-19-related complications, and laboratory values. We next performed metaanalyses using FinnGen and the Columbia University COVID-19 Biobank.

We report a successful surgical repair of left ventricular pseudoaneurysm in a patient with subacute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). In the case of expansion of the infarct related ventricular wall, early (within 24 hours) or late (3-5 days after STEMI) cardiac rupture should be always borne in mind in order to proceed to life saving prompt surgical repair.
