Popliteomeniscal fascicles tears with lateral meniscus instability: outcomes of arthroscopic surgical technique at mid-term follow-up.

Purpose: The popliteomeniscal fascicles (PMFs) are a crucial part of the posterolateral corner of the knee. They provide stability to the lateral meniscus and stabilize the joint during tibial internal rotation. The clinical diagnosis of a torn PMFs is difficult, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be inconclusive as well.

Age over 50 does not predict results in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

Introduction: Grown in the worldwide population of over 50 of age individuals who remain in good health and continue to engage in sports has led to an increase of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears in this aged population. ACL reconstruction was reserved for young and active athletes, but seems to produce good outcomes also in over 50s.

Purpose: To compare the patient-reported functional scores, arthrometric outcomes, and complications of primary ACL reconstruction between older (>50 years) and younger (<50 years) patients.

Purpose: Groin pain is a widely recognized medical issue among athletes. Groin pain can affect both player and team performance and sometimes can be a career-ending injury. The aim of this study was to assess seasonal groin pain prevalence and the average seasonal time loss from sport for each injury in different team sport athletes.

Purpose: Pola et al. described a clinical-radiological classification of pyogenic spinal infections (PSI) based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features including vertebral destruction, soft tissue involvement, and epidural abscess, along with the neurological status. We performed an inter- and intra-observer agreement evaluation of this classification.

Midterm Outcomes, Complications, and Return to Sports After Medial Collateral Ligament and Posterior Oblique Ligament Reconstruction for Medial Knee Instability: A Systematic Review.

Hybrid coracoclavicular and acromioclavicular reconstruction in chronic acromioclavicular joint dislocations yields good functional and radiographic results.

Purpose: Optimal treatment of chronic unstable acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocations (stage 3-5 according the Rockwood classification) is still debated. Anatomic coracoclavicular (CC) reconstruction is a reliable option in terms of two-dimensional radiographic reduction, clinical outcomes, and return to sports, but there remain concerns regarding anterior-posterior stability of the AC joint with CC ligament reconstruction alone. The aim of the present study was to describe the mid-term results of a new hybrid technique with CC and AC ligament reconstruction for chronic AC joint dislocations.

Background: Compared to the other members of human epidermal growth factor family receptors (HER), the role of HER3 has not been well defined in laryngeal cancer. The predictive and prognostic role of HER3 has been the focus of clinical attention but the research findings are contradictory, especially in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). The variable localization of HER3 within cancer cells and the role of HER3 in primary and acquired resistance to HER1-targeted therapies remain unclear.

Lung ultrasound predicts non-invasive ventilation outcome in COVID-19 acute respiratory failure: a pilot study.

Background: The aim of this study is to determine relationships between lung aeration assessed by lung ultrasound (LUS) with non-invasive ventilation (NIMV) outcome, intensive care unit (ICU) admission and mechanical ventilation (MV) needs in COVID-19 respiratory failure.

Methods: A cohort of adult patients with COVID-19 respiratory failure underwent LUS during initial assessment. A simplified LUS protocol consisting in scanning six areas, three for each side, was adopted.

Posterior oblique ligament of the knee: state of the art.

The posterior oblique ligament (POL) is the predominant ligamentous structure on the posterior medial corner of the knee joint. A thorough understanding of the anatomy, biomechanics, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of POL injuries will aid orthopaedic surgeons in the management of these injuries.The resulting rotational instability, in addition to valgus laxity, may not be tolerated by athletes participating in pivoting sports.

Navigated percutaneous screw fixation of the pelvis with O-arm 2: two years' experience.

Aim To evaluate the case series of the patients operated with percutaneous fixation by the navigation system based on 3D fluoroscopic images, to assess the precision of a surgical implant and functional outcome of patients. Methods A retrospective study of pelvic ring fractures in a 2-year period included those treated with the use of the O-Arm 2 in combination with the Stealth Station 8. Pelvic fractures were classified according to the Tile and the Young-Burgess classification.

High-Throughput Genetic Testing in ALS: The Challenging Path of Variant Classification Considering the ACMG Guidelines.

The development of high-throughput sequencing technologies and screening of big patient cohorts with familial and sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) led to the identification of a significant number of genetic variants, which are sometimes difficult to interpret. The American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) provided guidelines to help molecular geneticists and pathologists to interpret variants found in laboratory testing. We assessed the application of the ACMG criteria to ALS-related variants, combining data from literature with our experience.

3D - Navigated percutaneous screw fixation of pelvic ring injuries - a pilot study.

Introduction: Screw fixation of pelvic ring fractures is a common, but demanding procedure and navigation techniques were introduced to increase the precision of screw placement. The purpose of this case series is to demonstrate a lower screw malposition rate using percutaneous fixation of pelvic ring fractures and sacroiliac dislocations guided by navigation system based on 3D-fluoroscopic images compared to traditional imaging techniques and to evaluate the functional outcomes of this innovative procedure.

Patient And Methods: 10 cases of disrupted pelvic ring lesions treated in our hospital from February 2018 to December 2018 were included for closed reduction and percutaneous screw fixation of using with O-Arm and the acquisition by the Navigator.

The usefulness of the IMAP propeller flap for trachea and tracheostome reconstruction after resection of parastomal recurrence of squamous cell carcinoma following salvage total laryngectomy.

Purpose: Parastomal recurrence of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) with tracheal involvement following salvage total laryngectomy after prior concurrent chemoradiotherapy is one of the most insidious challenges in head and neck surgery because a complex reconstruction is often required for covering a large area of skin loss, filling the dead space beneath, tracheal reconstruction and suspension, and tracheostome resurfacing. The aim is to describe our experience with the internal mammary artery perforator (IMAP) propeller flap for tracheal and tracheostome reconstruction and neck resurfacing after parastomal and cervical trachea resection, especially for suspension and anchoring the stump of the residual distal trachea to the island flap itself.

Methods: We describe IMAP flap reconstruction after resection of parastomal recurrence of SCC requiring cervical trachea resection in five patients between January 1, 2005 and August 30, 2019.

This study investigated the prevalence of hyponatremia during the hospital stay, in a cohort of elderly patients with hip fractures who underwent surgery within 48 h from admission. Records data were retrieved from the database of the San Giovanni di Dio e Ruggi d'Aragona Hospital of Salerno, Italy. All elderly patients (≥65 years old) with a documented hip fracture that underwent surgery within 48 h from admission, between 2016 and 2018, were included and divided in 4 subgroups according to their sex and type of fracture.
