The surgical intervention rate and the subsequent rehabilitation plan for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury was crucially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic due to the necessity in the face of the emergency. This review aimed to evaluate potential persistent and residual symptoms after COVID-19 disease, including fatigue and neuromuscular disorders. A scoping review design and methodology were used due to the exploratory nature of the research question, according to literature searches on PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), and Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) electronic databases using the following keywords: "Anterior Cruciate Ligament", "ACL", "SARS-CoV-2", and "COVID-19".

Black garlic is a relatively new product that has become very popular in recent years. It is obtained by fermenting raw (white) garlic by the application of heat treatment. The undesirable pungent odor of the white garlic disappears and the black garlic product with a sweet-sour flavor is formed after various reactions during the applied heat process.

Biosurfactants (BSs) are microbial compounds that have emerged as potential alternatives to chemical surfactants due to their multifunctional properties, sustainability and biodegradability. Owing to their amphipathic nature and distinctive structural arrangement, biosurfactants exhibit a range of physicochemical properties, including excellent surface activity, efficient critical micelle concentration, humectant properties, foaming and cleaning abilities and the capacity to form microemulsions. Furthermore, numerous biosurfactants display additional biological characteristics, such as antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral effects, and antioxidant, anticancer and immunomodulatory activities.

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) are a crucial issue in current literature due to their impact on physical function, social, and economic costs. Rehabilitation plays a pivotal role in the therapeutic management of these disabling conditions with growing evidence underlining positive effects in improving functional outcomes. However, to date, several questions are still open about the mechanisms underpinning functional improvements while recent research is now focusing on a deeper understanding of the biophysical processes underpinning the macroscopical effects of these treatments.

Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a disabling condition characterized by multilevel skeletal muscle impairment and rapid cortical and trabecular bone loss. Rehabilitation is a cornerstone of the long-term management of patients with SCI; however, the optimal rehabilitation strategy for improving bone health has not been fully characterized.
Objective: To characterize the current evidence supporting different rehabilitation interventions improving bone health in patients with SCI.

Purpose: To evaluate microvascular and neuronal changes over 3 years in patients with Type 1/2 diabetes mellitus (DM1/DM2), good metabolic control, and no signs of diabetic retinopathy.
Methods: In this prospective, longitudinal study, 20 DM1, 48 DM2, and 24 controls underwent macular optical coherence tomography and optical coherence tomography angiography at baseline and after 3 years. Following parameters were considered: thickness of the central macula, retinal nerve fiber layer, ganglion cell (GCL+/GCL++) complex; perfusion and vessel density and fractal dimension at the superficial and deep capillary plexuses; choriocapillaris flow deficits; and foveal avascular zone metrics.

According to the United Nations, approximately one-third of the food produced for human consumption is wasted. The actual linear "Take-Make-Dispose" model is nowadays obsolete and uneconomical for societies and the environment, while circular thinking in production systems and its effective adoption offers new opportunities and benefits. Following the "Waste Framework Directive" (2008/98/CE), the European Green Deal, and the actual Circular Economy Action Plan, when prevention is not possible, recovering an unavoidable food waste as a by-product represents a most promising pathway.

Malignant primary brain tumors remain among the most difficult cancers to treat, in particular, Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is the deadliest brain tumor. The standard therapies currently used are not efficient enough in improving patients' survival and quality of life. Cisplatin (CDDP), a platinum-based drug, has shown efficacy against different solid neoplasms, but it is also associated to different forms of off-target toxicity.

The aim of the current study was to provide a useful platform to identify characteristic molecular markers related to the authenticity of Italian fortified wines. For this purpose, the volatilomic fingerprint of the most popular Italian fortified wines was established using headspace solid-phase microextraction combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME/GC-MS). Several volatile organic compounds (VOCs), belonging with distinct chemical groups, were identified, ten of which are common to all the analyzed fortified Italian wines.

There is an increase of application of Nickel in the form of nanoparticles (NiNPs) in several fields including modern metallurgy, bioengineering, and medicine. Such growth of the areas of application is actually accompanied with an increase of exposure to Nickel, thus an intensification of the negative effects, the most frequent being the allergic contact dermatitis. Indeed, due to their smaller size, and therefore their higher surface area, NiNPs can release more Ni ions compared to bulk material, that can penetrate and permeate through the skin.

Even though cancer patients are generally considered more susceptible to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, the mechanisms driving their predisposition to severe forms of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have not yet been deciphered. Since metabolic disorders are associated with homeostatic frailty, which increases the risk of infection and cancer, we asked whether we could identify immunometabolic pathways intersecting with cancer and SARS-CoV-2 infection. Thanks to a combined flow cytometry and multiomics approach, here we show that the immunometabolic traits of COVID-19 cancer patients encompass alterations in the frequency and activation status of circulating myeloid and lymphoid subsets, and that these changes are associated with i) depletion of tryptophan and its related neuromediator tryptamine, ii) accumulation of immunosuppressive tryptophan metabolites (i.

Lanthanide (Ln) luminescent materials play a crucial role in information security and data storage owing to their excellent and unique optical properties. The advances in dynamic colorful luminescent anti-counterfeiting nanomaterials enable the generation of a high-level information encryption. In this work, a superior thermal, optical wavelength and excitation power triple-mode stimuli-responsive emission color modulation is demonstrated in a lanthanide-doped nanostructured luminescent material.

Background: Several technological advances and digital solutions have been proposed in the recent years to face the emerging need for tele-monitoring older adults with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). However, several challenges have negatively influenced an evidence-based approach to improve Health-Related Quality of Life (HR-QoL) in these patients.
Aim: To assess the effects of tele-monitoring devices on HR-QoL in older adults with COPD.

The abnormal matrix remodeling process, as well as inflammation, angiogenesis, and tumor metastasis, are related to an increase in the synthesis and secretion of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), the zinc-dependent proteolytic endopeptidases. Recent studies have evidenced MMPs' role in osteoarthritis (OA) development, during which chondrocytes undergo hypertrophic differentiation and exhibit enhanced catabolism. The trait of OA is extracellular matrix (ECM) progressive degradation regulated by many factors, in which MMPs play an important role, which indicates them as potential therapeutic targets.

Bacterial infections are a growing concern to the health care systems. Bacteria in the human body are often found embedded in a dense 3D structure, the biofilm, which makes their eradication even more challenging. Indeed, bacteria in biofilm are protected from external hazards and are more prone to develop antibiotic resistance.

The spread of multidrug resistant bacteria has fueled the development of new antibiotics to combat bacterial infections. Disrupting the quorum sensing (QS) mechanism with biomolecules is a promising approach against bacterial infections. Plants used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) represent a valuable resource for the identification of QS inhibitors.
