The increasing prevalence of neurodegenerative disorders represents a challenge to the global health of all nations and populations, particularly with increasing longevity. Urgent prevention strategies are therefore needed, and one opportunity may be to explore the relationship between dietary patterns and brain health which has emerged as a promising strategy. Numerous studies indicate that dietary choices have a significant impact on cognitive function, memory and the risks of neurological disorders, recognizing the dynamic role of diet in maintaining cognitive abilities.

Background: Diverting ileostomy is a common procedure in rectal cancer surgery, but it is sometimes associated with a nonnegligible rate of complications. The primary aim of this study was to analyze the incidence and types of stoma-related complications for ileostomy creation after rectal cancer resection. The secondary aims were to report the indications, the technical details, and the efficacy of stoma care provided by ostomy nurses.

This research starts with the analysis of some fragments of the Berlin Wall street art for the characterization of the painting materials. The spectroscopic results provide a general description of the paint executive technique but more importantly open the way to a new advantage of Raman application to the analytic analysis of acrylic colors. The study highlights the correlation between peak intensity and compound percentage and explores the powerful application of deep learning for the quantification of a pigment mixture in the acrylic commercial products from Raman spectra acquired with hand-held equipment (BRAVO by Bruker).

The craft beer industry is becoming increasingly interested in the production of innovative beers. A novel approach, designated as "primary souring," employs diverse yeast species, including Lachancea thermotolerans, to produce sour beers. Furthermore, there is a growing interest in utilising unconventional yeasts to produce beers with distinctive flavours.

Sedimentation tanks represent one of the most important components of any water and wastewater treatment plants. The lack of knowledge of hydraulics in sedimentation tank leads to unnecessary capital and operating costs as well as water pollution in the form of excessive sludge. Improper and inadequate design cause overloading of filters, and lead to frequent backwashing, which in turn waste a significant percentage of treated water.

Introduction: Clinically, knowing whether a static stretching (SS) intervention program conducted for several weeks can reduce passive muscle stiffness is important. Still, only a few previous studies have evaluated the chronic effects of an SS intervention program in older adults, and the potential relationship between ROM changes and muscle stiffness changes is still unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of a 10- week SS intervention partially supervised program on joint range of motion (ROM) and tissue hardness in older adults.

We here describe a rare case of a 26-year-old male patient, presenting to our hospital after a motorcycle-car accident for the surgical management of long-bone fractures to the tibia and femur and shoulder dislocation and undergoing orthopedic surgery, who postoperatively developed seizure, coma, and respiratory failure due to a cerebral fat embolism. After some hours after the surgery, a loss of consciousness was described by caregivers, and the ICU team was alerted, and the patient was admitted to ICU. Intracranial hemorrhage and stroke were subsequently excluded and, finally, a whole-body computed tomography angiography scan and head magnetic resonance imaging showed lesions consistent with cerebral fat embolism.

Introduction: The increasing prevalence of cardiometabolic diseases highlights the urgent need for practical interventions to mitigate their associated public health burden. Whey protein supplementation has emerged as a potential intervention for improving markers of cardiometabolic health. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine the effect of whey protein ingestion on cardiometabolic profile in adults.

The present study employs a range of methods to examine the morphology of 58 specimens (18♂♂ and 40♀♀) from Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, collected from altitudes varying between 10 and 1795 metres AMSL. Moroccan sampling sites include localities on both the north and south of the High Atlas and from either side of the Middle Atlas, i.

Hypoalbuminemia is a risk factor for mortality in patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD) and in those undergoing orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT), since it represents a biomarker of post-operative delayed functional recovery of the graft. Despite albumin infusion during and after OLT is frequently adopted in recipients with hypoalbuminemia, it remains unclear whether this procedure could improve post OLT clinical outcomes. Observational studies indicated that treatment with albumin after OLT might be beneficial in reducing ascites and acute kidney injury (AKI) development.

Patients with diabetic are at a higher risk of developing hepatic disorders compared to non-diabetic individuals. This increased risk can be attributed to the diabetic environment, which triggers and exacerbates harmful pathways involved in both diabetic complications and hepatic disorders. Therefore, it is important to consider the use of antidiabetic agents that offer benefits beyond glycemic control and have positive effects on liver tissues.

Oil spills are a major cause of pollution impacting marine ecosystems. In this work, the effects of short-term exposure to three different concentrations of a hydrocarbon mixture (HC), that simulated the action of such an event, were investigated on Mytilus galloprovincialis specimens. Physiological effects were measured using a battery of biomarkers consisting of cellular activity (phagocytosis), immune-related enzymes, chaperonins (HSP70 and HSC70), and histomorphological alterations.

Background & Aims: Long-term albumin (LTA) is currently standard of care for patients with decompensated cirrhosis in many Italian hepatology centres. In this real-life study, we aimed to describe patient, logistical and treatment-related characteristics in daily clinical practice and to identify predictors of response.
Methods: We performed a multicentre, retrospective, observational study in patients with cirrhosis and ascites receiving LTA between 01/2016 and 02/2022 and followed until death, TIPS (transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt) placement, transplantation or 02/2023.
