Facioscapulohumeral dystrophy type 1 (FSHD1) displays prominent intra- and interfamilial variability, which complicates the phenotype-genotype correlation. In this retrospective study, we investigated FSHD1 patients classified as category D according to the Comprehensive Clinical Evaluation Form (CCEF), a category defined by FSHD patients showing uncommon clinical features, to identify genetic causes explaining these uncommon phenotypes. Fiber is essential for rumen health, microbial fermentation, and the energy supply of herbivores. Even though the study of fecal fiber contents (neutral detergent fiber NDF, acid detergent fiber ADF, and acid detergent lignin ADL) using near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) has allowed investigating nutritional ecology of different herbivore species, NIRS calibrations are species-specific and require a large number of samples for predictions. A multispecies calibration would be an advantage since samples from different herbivores could be used to calibrate a model capable of predicting the fecal fiber content of other herbivores.

Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is a genetic condition caused by the inheritance of alleles with >200 CGG repeats in the 5' UTR of the fragile X messenger ribonucleoprotein 1 () gene. These full mutation (FM) alleles are associated with DNA methylation and gene silencing, which result in intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, and social and behavioral issues. Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2E/R4 (LGMD2E/R4) is a rare disease that currently has no cure. This review explores the complex bidirectional relationship between pulmonary fibrosis and thrombosis, discussing epidemiological evidence, pathogenetic mechanisms, and therapeutic implications, with a particular focus on the emerging role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) as crucial mediators linking fibrosis and coagulation. Coagulation factors directly promote fibrosis, while fibrosis itself activates thrombotic pathways.

Myocarditis is an inflammatory disease of the myocardium with heterogeneous etiology, clinical presentation, and prognosis; when it is associated with myocardial dysfunction, this identifies the entity of inflammatory cardiomyopathy. In the last few decades, the relevance of the immune system in myocarditis onset and progression has become evident, thus having crucial clinical relevance in terms of treatment and prognostic stratification. In fact, the advances in cardiac immunology have led to a better characterization of the cellular subtypes involved in the pathogenesis of inflammatory cardiomyopathy, whether the etiology is infectious or autoimmune/immune-mediated.

Background: Lymphedema represents a frequent cause of disability for patients undergoing oncological treatments and, being a chronic, non-reversible pathology, requires targeted and continuous rehabilitation treatments. To date, the studies available on the use of ultrasound in patients with lymphedema mainly report descriptive data; therefore, with this study, we wanted to describe in a more objective way the typical ultrasound alterations found in these patients, measuring the thickness of the different superficial structures, and defining subcutis echogenicity.

Methods: 14 patients affected by secondary lymphedema of the upper limbs were enrolled in this cross-sectional observational study (12 had breast cancer and 2 with melanoma as their primary diagnosis).

There is an ongoing debate about the relative merits of plant-based versus animal-based protein sources in terms of human health outcomes and environmental impacts. This viewpoint article reviews and synthesizes the current evidence comparing plant and animal protein sources on measures of human health like cardiovascular disease, cancer, and mortality risk, as well as environmental factors like greenhouse gas emissions, water use, and land requirements. Overall, greater consumption of plant protein sources like legumes, nuts, seeds, and whole grains is associated with reduced risks of cardiovascular diseases, some cancers, and mortality, especially compared to red and processed meats.

The aim of this study was to characterize the highly detailed fatty acid (FA) profiles of 258 cheeses of 18 different categories of cheese collected in the mountains and on the plains of the Veneto region (Italy). The results clearly showed that, aside from the distinctive FA profiles of goat cheeses (more short-chain FAs and fewer MUFAs), the three categories of Formaggio di Malga (artisanal cheeses produced on temporary summer farms on Alpine pastures where transhumance is practiced) were very different from the other cheese categories in terms of their much higher CLA and omega-3 contents. Two categories of cheese from permanent farms in the mountains (Morlacco del Grappa and Monte Veronese PDO) were intermediate, and two other categories of cheeses originating in the mountains (Asiago PDO and Montasio PDO), but now produced mainly on the plains, were not distinguishable from the other cheese categories.

This study assessed the impact of growth-related myopathies-white striping (WS), wooden breast (WB), and spaghetti meat (SM)-on the technological properties, lipid and protein oxidation, chemical composition, and profiles of fatty acids (FAs), amino acids, minerals, and sensory attributes of muscles in broiler chickens. Breasts with myopathies had similar pH and lightness but exhibited lower redness and yellowness in the case of WB defect compared to normal meat ( < 0.05).
