Background: Congenital hypopituitarism (CH) and its associated syndromes, septo-optic dysplasia (SOD) and holoprosencephaly (HPE), are midline defects that cause significant morbidity for affected people. Variants in 67 genes are associated with CH, but a vast majority of CH cases lack a genetic diagnosis. Whole exome and whole genome sequencing of CH patients identifies sequence variants in genes known to cause CH, and in new candidate genes, but many of these are variants of uncertain significance (VUS).

In the animal kingdom, threat information is perceived mainly through vision. The subcortical visual pathway plays a critical role in the rapid processing of visual information-induced fear, and triggers a response. Looming-evoked behavior in rodents, mimicking response to aerial predators, allowed identify the neural circuitry underlying instinctive defensive behaviors; however, the influence of disk/background contrast on the looming-induced behavioral response has not been examined, either in rats or mice.

Introduction: Studies focused on dermoscopic aspects of pigmented Bowen disease (pBD) in Latin American population are scarce and limited to only case reports or small series.
Objectives: To report dermoscopic findings in a large series of 147 pBD diagnosed in Ibero-Latin American population.
Methods: We conducted a multicentric, retrospective study on 147 histologically proven pBD under the auspices of the Dermoscopy Chapter of the Ibero-Latin American College of Dermatology.

Numerous factors can increase the risk of severe influenza; however, a majority of severe cases occur in previously healthy children. Identification of high-risk children is important for targeted preventive interventions and prompt treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate MUC5AC as a biomarker for influenza disease severity in children.

Selpercatinib, a selective RET kinase inhibitor, has demonstrated remarkable efficacy in treating patients with advanced medullary (MTC) and differentiated thyroid cancer with RET alterations. Primary resistance to selpercatinib is a very uncommon situation, and its underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. We report the case of a 42-year-old female with advanced MTC harboring a somatic M918T RET mutation who exhibited a primary resistance to selpercatinib.

Skeletal evidence usually constitutes the only source of information to interpret lesion patterns that help to clarify the circumstances surrounding death. The examination and interpretation of bone trauma are essential to the application and utility of anthropology as a forensic science. When discussing the effect of gunshot wounds in bone, it becomes imperative to differentiate between short and long-distance injuries based on clear, distinct, and observable signs.

Sport is considered an exceptional activity for promoting healthy lifestyles, but the relationship between sport and alcohol consumption is inconclusive. Research on personal values may shed light on this issue and thus make it possible to find effective ways to prevent alcohol misuse in adolescents. The main objectives of this study were to explore the relationships between personal values and alcohol consumption amongst adolescent athletes and to validate the Portrait Values Questionnaire-21 (PVQ-21) in this population.

Diversity in brain health is influenced by individual differences in demographics and cognition. However, most studies on brain health and diseases have typically controlled for these factors rather than explored their potential to predict brain signals. Here, we assessed the role of individual differences in demographics (age, sex, and education; n = 1298) and cognition (n = 725) as predictors of different metrics usually used in case-control studies.

Purpose: To evaluate objective response rates (ORR), progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) associated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in patients with radioiodine refractory differentiated thyroid cancer (RR-DTC). Additionally, to compare: (i) ORR and PFS among patients treated with lenvatinib and sorafenib; (ii) ORR and PFS among patients receiving lenvatinib as first-line vs. second-line and; (iii) adverse effects (AEs) observed in patients treated with these medications.

Surgical resection is not always achievable in thyroid cancer patients. Neoadjuvant therapy is rarely used, but recent trends favor multikinase inhibitors or selective tyrosine kinase inhibitors. These aim to reduce tumor volume, enabling previously unfeasible surgeries.

Aim: Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is usually treated with high doses of paclitaxel, whose effectiveness may be modulated by the action of environmental contaminants such as hexachlorobenzene. High doses of paclitaxel cause adverse effects such as low cellular selectivity and the generation of resistance to treatment due to an increase in the expression of multidrug resistance proteins (MRPs). These effects can be reduced using a metronomic administration scheme with low doses.

Video games are a valuable tool for studying the effects of training and neural plasticity on the brain. However, the underlying mechanisms related to plasticity-associated brain structural changes and their impact on brain dynamics are unknown. Here, we used a semi-empirical whole-brain model to study structural neural plasticity mechanisms linked to video game expertise.

Objectives: Perform radiologic measurements and analysis of normal brain computed tomography (CT) scans; delineate a new ventricular entry point from cutaneous landmarks, highlighting the potential surgical implications of these findings.
Methods: Six radiologic distances (AR; BR; AL; BL, C, and D) were measured in normal brain CT scans using Horos software. Statistical analysis of the measurements was performed with minitab18 software based on age, sex, and side.

Anaerobic digestion is a complex microbial process that mediates the transformation of organic waste into biogas. The performance and stability of anaerobic digesters relies on the structure and function of the microbial community. In this study, we asked whether the deterministic effect of wastewater composition outweighs the effect of reactor configuration on the structure and dynamics of anaerobic digester archaeal and bacterial communities.

Introduction: Lipoabdominoplasty is one of the most common abdominal body contouring procedures performed today; however, it carries the risk of significant complications. Pneumothorax is a rare complication of liposuction, while, venous thromboembolism has a low short-term mortality and long-term morbidity.
Presentation Of Case: A 57-year-old woman with a history of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, obesity, and severe COVID-19 three years earlier.

To not only survive, but also thrive, the brain must efficiently orchestrate distributed computation across space and time. This requires hierarchical organisation facilitating fast information transfer and processing at the lowest possible metabolic cost. Quantifying brain hierarchy is difficult but can be estimated from the asymmetry of information flow.

Spatio-temporal patterns of evoked brain activity contain information that can be used to decode and categorize the semantic content of visual stimuli. However, this procedure can be biased by low-level image features independently of the semantic content present in the stimuli, prompting the need to understand the robustness of different models regarding these confounding factors. In this study, we trained machine learning models to distinguish between concepts included in the publicly available THINGS-EEG dataset using electroencephalography (EEG) data acquired during a rapid serial visual presentation paradigm.

The association between hypertension and obesity-induced cardiac damage is usually accepted. However, no studies have been focused on cardiac alterations in obesity, independently of blood pressure increase. It is well known that Cardiac TRH induces Left Ventricular Hypertrophy (LVH) and fibrosis, and its inhibition prevents the development of hypertrophy.
