Article Synopsis
  • Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is a chronic autoimmune skin disease that has been potentially linked to viral infections, specifically herpes simplex virus (HSV), based on earlier reports.
  • A study involving 15 confirmed cases of PV used advanced tissue analysis techniques but found no evidence of HSV-1 in the samples tested.
  • The authors emphasize the need for more robust research to clarify whether HSV-1 contributes to the development of PV or if it is simply a coincidental infection due to the weakened immune system of PV patients.
