Introduction: T-cadherin, a non-canonical member of the cadherin superfamily, was initially identified for its involvement in homophilic recognition within the nervous and vascular systems. Apart from its adhesive function, T-cadherin acts as a receptor for two ligands: LDL, contributing to atherogenic processes, and HMW adiponectin, a hormone with well-known cardiovascular protective properties. However, the precise role of T-cadherin in adipose tissue remains elusive.

Pair correlations for a polar liquid-crystal (LC) system have been theoretically investigated by means of integral equation approach. Using the dipolar Gay-Berne (GB) interactions between the molecules that composed the LC system, calculations of the nearest-neighbor (NN) and next-NN (NNN) correlators as well as the order parameters and the static dielectric coefficients were performed. It is shown that for a simple cubic packing, NN dipoles tend to be mutually antiparallel with respect to the central dipole, while the opposite trend was observed for NNN dipoles.

Glass-coated microwires exhibiting magnetic bistability have garnered significant attention as promising wireless sensing elements, primarily due to their rapid magnetization switching capabilities. These microwires consist of a metallic core with diameter , encased in a glass coating, with a total diameter . In this study, we investigated how the dimensions of both components and their ratio (/) influence the magnetization reversal behavior of Fe-based microwires.

Recent studies of the spread of substances penetrating the disrupted blood-brain barrier have revealed that the spread in the parenchyma surrounding a vessel has a complex character. In particular, a flow-like motion occurred for a short time that exhibits a smooth transition to diffusional spread. To address the possible physical background of such behavior, we created a system formed by a hydrogel medium with a channel filled by a marker solution, which can serve as a physical model mimicking the process of a substance passively spreading to the brain's parenchyma when the blood-brain barrier is disrupted.

For the first time, we introduced chemomechanical self-oscillating poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-based gels containing catalytically active Fe or Ru complexes both as crosslinkers and as pendant groups. All the obtained gels exhibited sustained autonomous oscillations driven by the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction within their structure. The Ru complex-based gels also demonstrated pronounced chemomechanical oscillations; they periodically swelled/shrunk when the catalyst was reduced/oxidized.

Research on urban ecosystem services (ES) covers many regions globally, yet significant gaps remain in several areas, including Russia. Furthermore, the number of publications on Russian ES is still very low, and most of them focus on ES assessment on the national level which results in an incomplete understanding of ES provision in Russian cities. To fill this gap, 197 publications on urban ES have been systematically reviewed.

Melanoma of the lentigo maligna (LM) type and its invasive counterpart, lentigo maligna melanoma (LMM), occur in chronically sun-damaged skin and tend to have subclinical extension that makes presurgical margin mapping challenging. Reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) is a non-invasive imaging modality that enables in vivo visualization of the skin at the cellular level, allowing for adequate estimation of LM/LMM margins. We aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating RCM's performance compared with histopathology in margin mapping of LM/LMM.

Drought is one of the most important abiotic factors limiting plant productivity. Although the aromatic plants of the Lamiaceae family often grow in arid regions, drought tolerance varies greatly among the different species of this family. The effect of induced drought stress can be reduced by the application of selenium.

Tactile and motor imagery are crucial components of sensorimotor functioning and cognitive neuroscience research, yet the neural mechanisms of tactile imagery remain underexplored compared to motor imagery. This study employs multichannel functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) combined with image reconstruction techniques to investigate the neural hemodynamics associated with tactile (TI) and motor imagery (MI). In a study of 15 healthy participants, we found that MI elicited significantly greater hemodynamic responses (HRs) in the precentral area compared to TI, suggesting the involvement of different cortical areas involved in two different types of sensorimotor mental imagery.

The distribution of plastic pollution in the marine environment is highly variable in time and space, making it difficult to assess pollution levels. This study shows that mixing and natural sorting of material in the wave run-up zone of a sandy beach results in a relatively stable abundance of microplastics in the size range 0.5-2 mm (S-MPs).

We report the synthesis of novel cobalt complexes-based catalysts designed for the oscillatory Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction. For the first time, we introduce cobalt complex-based self-oscillating gels that demonstrate autonomous color oscillations within a BZ reagent solution, functioning without the need for any external stimuli. We created acrylamide-based self-oscillating gels containing immobilized tris(2,2'-bipyridine)cobalt(II) or tris(1,10-phenanthroline)cobalt(II) complexes and gels containing covalently bound (5-acrylamido-1,10-phenanthroline)bis(2,2'-bipyridine)cobalt(II), (5-acrylamido-1,10-phenanthroline)bis(1,10-phenanthroline) cobalt(II), or tris(5-acrylamido-1,10-phenanthroline)cobalt(II) complexes.

In laboratory conditions, composite sutures based on polylactide (PLA) containing chitin nanofibrils modified with polyethylene glycol (CN-PEG) and poviargol (silver nanoparticles stabilized with poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone)) were obtained, studied, and used as a prototype. Surgical sutures threads with the addition of CN-PEG have stable mechanical properties both in air and in a buffer simulating the environment of a living organism. The yield strength of oriented threads decreased by an average of 15%, whereas for non-oriented threads the decrease was 3-4 times.
