Mucinous ovarian cancer occurs sporadically, with a frequency of approximately 3-5% among all subtypes of ovarian cancer. Extreme leukocytosis >40,000 and 50,000 has been described in most solid tumors and is associated with a poor prognosis, although there is a lack of literal data of its occurrence after cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC in the treatment of advanced mucinous ovarian cancer. There is higher risk of the occurrence of cholecystitis in oncology patients compared to the general population, although there is no formal evidence for this, and the association with ovarian cancer is accompanied by a relative risk of 1.

Dietary imbalance and overeating can lead to an increasingly widespread disease - obesity. Aesthetic considerations aside, obesity is defined as an excess of adipose tissue that can lead to serious health problems and can predispose to a number of pathological changes and clinical diseases, including diabetes; hypertension; atherosclerosis; coronary artery disease and stroke; obstructive sleep apnea; depression; weight-related arthropathies and endometrial and breast cancer. A body weight 20% above ideal for age, gender and height is a severe health risk.

Although growing evidence favours liver resection (LR) over TACE for intermediate-stage HCC, the best treatment option remains controversial. This meta-analysis aimed to compare the overall survival (OS) after LR versus TACE for intermediate-stage HCC.

Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN) is rare pancreatic tumor occurring most commonly in young females. The typical imaging appearance of SPN is of well-defined, encapsulated, and large heterogeneous tumors, consisting of solid and cystic components due to various degrees of intralesional hemorrhage and necrosis. However, atypical imaging presentation in the form of small solid tumors or uniformly cystic lesions might also be seen, which can be explained by specific pathological characteristics.

Background: Considering the impact of SMAD7 deregulation in colorectal cancer (CRC) progression and the significance of single nucleotide variant (SNV)-mediated disruptions of microRNA (miRNA)-dependent regulation for cancer susceptibility, our study aimed to analyze genetic variation in the SMAD7 3' untranslated region ( 3'UTR) in CRC, measure differences in allelic mRNA expression, and evaluate its interference with miRNA-mediated post-transcriptional regulation.
Patients And Methods: This study included 80 patients with different CRC stages and six human colon cancer cell lines of various histological origins. SMAD7 3'UTR was analyzed by direct sequencing, followed by the relative quantification of differential allelic expression of detected variants by allele-specific qRT-PCR.

Background: Effective biliary tree decompression plays a central role in the palliation of malignant biliary obstruction (MBO). When endoscopic drainage is unfeasible or unsuccessful, percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) is the method of choice and preferred treatment approach in advanced hilar MBO. The prognostic nutritional index (PNI) reflects the patient's immunonutritional status, while the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) reflects the patient's inflammation status.

Purpose: In the search for candidate predictive biomarkers to evaluate response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) in rectal cancer, only a few studies report proteomic profiles of tumor tissue before and after nCRT. The aim of our study was to determine differentially expressed proteins between responders and non-responders before and after the therapy in order to identify candidate molecules for prediction and follow-up of response to nCRT.
Experimental Design: The study has included tissue sections of rectal tumor and non-tumor mucosa from five responders and five non-responders taken before and after nCRT from patients with locally advanced rectal cancer.

Insulinoma is the most common functional solitary, benign pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor. In this paper, we share our experience of triple pancreatic insulinomas, with an idea to highlight the fact that despite the high frequency of solitary insulinoma, there is the possibility of multiple lesions and point out the need for a systematic and detailed radiographic and clinical examination. A 33-year-old woman was admitted to our clinic due to chronic fatigue, sweating, sporadic episodes of palpitations, unsteady hands, and blurred images, which resolve spontaneously after a few minutes.

Clinical manifestations of Covid-19 vary widely among patients. Recent studies suggest that up to 15% of patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections develop gastrointestinal symptoms. The location of virus-host cell receptors angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 and transmembrane serine protease 2 has an important role in the pathophysiology and presentation of disease.

Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs) are uncommon pancreatic neoplasms with malignant potential, heterogeneous clinical behavior, as well as imaging appearance. These tumors represent less than 3% of all pancreatic neoplasms with typical CT presentation as solid, well-circumscribed, hypervascular lesions. Cystic PNET is a rare pancreatic tumor which is nowadays more often detected due to the widespread use of high-resolution cross-sectional imaging.

The progress that has been made in the treatment of rectal cancer has mostly resulted from multimodality strategy approach that combines surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC), surgery remains the primary treatment, while neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) is used to downsize or downstage the tumor before surgical resection. Highly variable response to nCRT observed in LARC patients raises the need for biomarkers to enable prediction and evaluation of treatment response in a more efficient and timely manner than currently available tools.

Visceral leishmaniasis (also known as kala-azar) is characterized by fever, weight loss, swelling of the spleen and liver, and pancytopenia. If it is not treated, the fatality rate in developing countries can be as high as 100% within 2 years. In a high risk situation for perioperative bleeding due to severe thrombocytopenia/coagulopathy, we present a rare challenge for urgent splenectomy in a patient with previously undiagnosed visceral leishmaniasis.
