Chronic total occlusions (CTOs) represent the most complex subset of coronary artery disease and therefore careful planning of CTO percutaneous coronary recanalization (PCI) strategy is of paramount importance aiming to achieve procedural success, and improve patient's safety and post CTO PCI outcomes. Intravascular imaging has an essential role in facilitating CTO PCΙ. First, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), due to its higher penetration depth compared to optical coherence tomography (OCT), and the additional capacity of real-time imaging without need for contrast injection is considered the preferred imaging modality for CTO PCI.

Intracoronary imaging (ICI) modalities, namely intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT), have shown to be able to reduce major adverse cardiovascular events in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Nevertheless, patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) have been practically excluded from contemporary large randomized controlled trials. The available data are limited and derive mostly from observational studies.

Cognitive and physical decline, both indicators of aging, seem to be associated with each other. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether physical function parameters (walking time and handgrip strength) are related to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers (amyloid-beta Aβ, Tau, PhTau) in individuals in the Alzheimer's disease (AD) continuum. The sample was drawn from the Aiginition Longitudinal Biomarker Investigation of Neurodegeneration study, comprising 163 individuals aged 40-75 years: 112 cognitively normal (CN) and 51 with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

The Facilitated Immunoglobulin Administration Registry And Outcomes (FIGARO) Study was a European, multicenter, prospective, observational study conducted across Europe designed to provide insights on the clinical use and tolerability of facilitated subcutaneous immunoglobulin (fSCIG). Data herein are reported for the cohort of patients with secondary immunodeficiency (SID), with a subgroup analysis by age. The SID cohort included 31 patients: 1 pediatric, 15 adult, and 15 older adult patients.

Microvascular changes in diabetes affect the function of several critical organs, such as the kidneys, heart, brain, eye, and skin, among others. The possibility of detecting such changes early enough in order to take appropriate actions renders the development of appropriate tools and techniques an imperative need. To this end, several sensing and imaging techniques have been developed or employed in the assessment of microangiopathy in patients with diabetes.

Introduction: Heart involvement is a common problem in systemic sclerosis. Recently, a definition of systemic sclerosis primary heart involvement had been proposed. Our aim was to establish consensus guidance on the screening, diagnosis and follow-up of systemic sclerosis primary heart involvement patients.

Troponin I and T as cardiac-specific biomarkers are highly useful tools not only in the diagnosis of acute coronary syndromes but also as independent predictors of several other clinical conditions. High-sensitivity cardiac troponin (hs-cTn) assays allow the detection of considerably low concentrations of cardiac troponin in apparently healthy and asymptomatic individuals, being a candidate tool for cardiovascular risk stratification in the general population. A group of Greek experts summarized the bulk of evidence regarding the use of hs-cTnI as a predictor of cardiovascular events and mortality in apparently healthy individuals and its additive value on top of existing risk stratification methods.

Background And Aims: Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] and interleuking-6 (IL-6), an inflammation biomarker, have been established as distinct targets of the residual atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk. We aimed to investigate the association between them, and the potential clinical implications in ASCVD prevention.
Methods: A literature search was conducted in PubMed until December 31st, 2022, using relevant keywords.

Glucocorticoids are members of steroid hormones that are biosynthesized in the intermediate cellular zone of the adrenal cortex (zona fasciculata) and released into the peripheral blood as final products of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, as well as under the control of the circadian biologic system. These molecules regulate every physiologic function of the organism as they bind to an almost ubiquitous hormone-activated transcription factor, the glucocorticoid receptor (GR), which influences the rate of transcription of a huge number of target genes amounting to up to 20% of the mammalian genome. The evolving progress of cellular, molecular and computational-structural biology and the implication of epigenetics in every-day clinical practice have enabled us a deeper and ever-increasing understanding of how target tissues respond to natural and synthetic glucocorticoids.

Introduction: Although there are some recommendations in the literature on the assessments that should be performed in children on recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) therapy, the level of consensus on these measurements is not clear. The objective of the current study was to identify the minimum dataset (MDS) that could be measured in a routine clinical setting across the world, aiming to minimise burden on clinicians and improve quality of data collection.
Methods: This study was undertaken by the growth hormone (GH) scientific study group in GloBE-Reg, a new project that has developed a common registry platform that can support long-term safety and effectiveness studies of drugs.

Purpose: Dysregulation of the stress system via incidental long exposure to glucocorticoids (GCs) can lead to weight gain. In addition, family and maternal stress can also have an impact on children's weight. Hair is used in several studies to evaluate cortisol (GC) levels in children and adolescents with excess weight as a retrospective stress biomarker, depending on the hair length the cortisol measurement depicting different time periods.

Peripheral blood monocytes propagate inflammation in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Three major populations of monocytes have been recognized namely classical (CM), intermediate (IM) and non-classical monocytes (NCM). Herein, we performed a comprehensive transcriptomic, proteomic and functional characterization of the three peripheral monocytic subsets from active SLE patients and healthy individuals.

Aims: Hospital admission during nighttime and off hours may affect the outcome of patients with various cardiovascular conditions due to suboptimal resources and personnel availability, but data for acute heart failure remain controversial. Therefore, we studied outcomes of acute heart failure patients according to their time of admission from the global International Registry to assess medical practice with lOngitudinal obseRvation for Treatment of Heart Failure.
Methods And Results: Overall, 18 553 acute heart failure patients were divided according to time of admission into 'morning' (7:00-14:59), 'evening' (15:00-22:59), and 'night' (23:00-06:59) shift groups.

Importance: The Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE) risk score, a guideline-recommended risk stratification tool for patients presenting with acute coronary syndromes (ACS), does not consider the extent of myocardial injury.
Objective: To assess the incremental predictive value of a modified GRACE score incorporating high-sensitivity cardiac troponin (hs-cTn) T at presentation, a surrogate of the extent of myocardial injury.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This retrospectively designed longitudinal cohort study examined 3 independent cohorts of 9803 patients with ACS enrolled from September 2009 to December 2017; 2 ACS derivation cohorts (Heidelberg ACS cohort and Newcastle STEMI cohort) and an ACS validation cohort (SPUM-ACS study).
