Assessing the response to systemic therapy in neuroendocrine tumors (NET) is challenging since morphological imaging response is often delayed and not necessarily reflective of clinical benefit. Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) has a complex mechanism of action, further complicating response assessment. In response to these challenges, the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (ENETS) Theranostics Task Force conducted a statement-based survey among experts to identify the current landscape and unmet needs in PRRT response assessment.

All recent guidelines on cardiovascular prevention have highlighted the role of a healthy diet and lifestyle advocating an holistic approach to reduce the cardiovascular burden among the population. Despite these efforts, registries have reported that only a minority of healthcare professionals provide advice on diet and lifestyle, and, in most cases, counseling is suboptimal for several reasons. Cardiovascular benefits linked to lifestyle and nutrition seem to be underestimated by many patients and doctors.

At the onset of lactation, high-producing dairy cows commonly face a negative energy balance and consequent metabolic disorders, such as hyperketonemia. Blood concentrations of nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA), BHB, cholesterol, glucose and urea provide valuable information about the metabolic, health, and nutritional status of lactating animals. Milk mid-infrared (MIR) spectroscopy has been successfully used for the prediction of several health traits, including concentration of blood metabolites even though the models' accuracy is moderate.

Hypoalbuminemia is a risk factor for mortality in patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD) and in those undergoing orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT), since it represents a biomarker of post-operative delayed functional recovery of the graft. Despite albumin infusion during and after OLT is frequently adopted in recipients with hypoalbuminemia, it remains unclear whether this procedure could improve post OLT clinical outcomes. Observational studies indicated that treatment with albumin after OLT might be beneficial in reducing ascites and acute kidney injury (AKI) development.

As a potential sequela of cirrhosis, hepatic encephalopathy (HE) significantly impacts the lives of patients and caregivers and places a substantial burden on the healthcare system. With an increasing incidence over time and a cumulative effect on cognition, HE adversely effects quality of life, morbidity and mortality in patients with cirrhosis. HE can range from minimal or covert (MHE/CHE) to overt and symptomatic (OHE).

Laminectomy and posterior fixation are well-established surgical techniques to decompress nervous structures in case of lumbar spinal stenosis. While laminectomy is suspected to increase the instability of the spine, posterior fixation is associated with some complications such as adjacent segment degeneration. This study aimed to investigate how laminectomy and posterior fixation alter the biomechanics of the lumbar spine in terms of range of motion (ROM) and strains on the intervertebral discs.

Gynecologic cancers are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among women worldwide. Despite advancements in diagnosis and treatment, the molecular mechanisms underlying the development and progression of these cancers remain poorly understood. Recent studies have implicated translational machinery (ribosomal proteins (RPs) and translation factors (TFs)) as potential drivers of oncogenic processes in various cancer types, including gynecologic cancers.

Because of the recent pandemic, new teaching methods have been trialed, even in traditional disciplines such as histopathology that typically involve extensive hands-on laboratory work. In this study, we investigated the effects of three different learning modalities in histopathology teaching: optical microscopy, in-class virtual microscopy (VM), and online VM lectures. We examined relational aspects, didactic effectiveness, and satisfaction in these learning settings, both during class time and in private study, outside the dedicated spaces and hours of the university.

Musculoskeletal disorders are the most prevalent occupational health problem all over the world and are often related to biomechanical risk factors; to control these risk factors, several assessment methods (mostly observational) have been proposed in the past 40 years. An in-depth knowledge of each method to evaluate biomechanical risk factors is needed to effectively employ them in the field, together with a robust understanding of their effective predictive value and limitations. In Part 1, some general issues relevant to biomechanical risk assessment are discussed, and the method for assessing manual material handling after receiving more robust validation data is reviewed (Revised NIOSH Lifting Equation), together with a discussion about variability of tasks.

Background: If left untreated, glaucoma-the second most common cause of blindness worldwide-causes irreversible visual loss due to a gradual neurodegeneration of the retinal ganglion cells. Conventional techniques for identifying glaucoma, like optical coherence tomography (OCT) and visual field exams, are frequently laborious and dependent on subjective interpretation. Through the fast and accurate analysis of massive amounts of imaging data, artificial intelligence (AI), in particular machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL), has emerged as a promising method to improve the early detection and management of glaucoma.
