Accurate and rapid segmentation of key parts of frozen tuna, along with precise pose estimation, is crucial for automated processing. However, challenges such as size differences and indistinct features of tuna parts, as well as the complexity of determining fish poses in multi-fish scenarios, hinder this process. To address these issues, this paper introduces TunaVision, a vision model based on YOLOv8 designed for automated tuna processing.

Freezing extends the shelf life of foods but often leads to structural damage due to ice crystal formation, negatively impacting quality attributes. Oscillating magnetic field (OMF)-assisted supercooling has emerged as a potential technique to overcome these limitations by inhibiting ice nucleation and maintaining foods in a supercooled state. Despite its potential, the effectiveness and underlying mechanisms of OMF-assisted supercooling remain subjects of debate.

A patterned growth of crystals of 1,2-bis(2,5-dimethyl-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene (1a) on the glass substrate with convex guides is reported by sublimation methods. The lower supersaturation of substrate surfaces with higher temperatures can facilitate the vapor-to-liquid process rather than the vapor-to-crystal process in the early stage of the sublimation. Micro-droplets of melts of 1a are generated on the sidewalls of the convex guides, then crystallized into the microcrystals, accompanied by the rearrangements of the crystallographic in-plane orientations.

In various applications, the pore structure of a porous medium must be controlled to facilitate heat and mass transfer, which considerably influence the system performance. Freeze-casting is a versatile technique for creating aligned pores; However, because of the complexity of the associated equipment and the energy inefficiency of liquid-nitrogen-based cooling in a room-temperature environment, limits scalability for industrial applications. This study is aimed at establishing a novel freeze-casting strategy with a simple mold design combining heat-conductive and insulating materials for long-range pore alignment via directional ice growth under deep-freezing conditions, rendering it feasible for large-scale production.

A series of biomass-based linear aliphatic polyesters are synthesized by combining sebacic acid (SA) (C10 diacid) and 1,18-octadecanedioic acid (OA) (C18 diacid) with a series of diols with varied alkyl chain lengths (C2 to C10 diols). SA and OA are obtainable from castor oil and palm oil, respectively. The reaction extent (polymerization extent) is high (≥96%) in all cases, and the number-average molecular weight (M) is 10 000-43 000 g mol after purification.
