Embryonic exposure to valproic acid and imidacloprid (a neonicotinoid insecticide) impairs filial imprinting in hatchlings, and the deteriorating effects of valproic acid are mitigated by post-hatch injection of bumetanide, a blocker of the chloride intruder Na-K-2Cl cotransporter 1. Here, we report that these exposures depolarized the reversal potential of local GABAergic transmission in the neurons of the intermediate medial mesopallium, the pallial region critical for imprinting. Furthermore, exposure increased field excitatory post-synaptic potentials in pre-tetanus recordings and impaired long-term potentiation (LTP) by low-frequency tetanic stimulation.

Loss-of-function mutations in tuberous sclerosis 1 (TSC1) are prevalent monogenic causes of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Selective deletion of Tsc1 from mouse cerebellar Purkinje neurons has been shown to cause several ASD-linked behavioral impairments, which are linked to reduced Purkinje neuron repetitive firing rates. We used electrophysiology methods to investigate why Purkinje neuron-specific Tsc1 deletion (Tsc1) impairs Purkinje neuron firing.

Background: Although peripheral administration of pregnenolone sulfate (PS) has been reported to produce pronociceptive effects, the mechanisms by which PS modulates the excitability of nociceptive neurons are poorly understood. Here, we report on the excitatory role of PS in peripheral nociceptive neurons, focusing on its effects on tetrodotoxin-resistant (TTX-R) Na channels.
Methods: TTX-R Na current (I) mediated by Na1.

Wakefulness and sleep affect the brain's ability to exhibit plastic changes. For instance, the potentiation of cortical excitatory synaptic connections is associated with the active period, when animals are mainly awake. It is unclear, however, how changes in neuronal physiology that are associated with sleep-wake history, affect the mechanisms responsible for synaptic plasticity.

Polar topological structures have emerged as a frontier in research due to their significant potential in nanoscale electronic devices. The periodic and ordered arrangement, as well as the dynamic control mechanisms, are essential for their practical applications. Here, we present theoretical phase-field simulations that reveal the periodic and ordered arrangement of skyrmions and in-plane vortices within (SrTiO)/(PbTiO)/(SrTiO) checkerboard-patterned wrinkled trilayer films.
