PbZrO (PZO) thin films, as a classic antiferroelectric material, have attracted tremendous attention for their excellent dielectric, electromechanical, and thermal switching performances. However, several fundamental questions remain unresolved, particularly the existence of an intermediate phase during the transition from the antiferroelectric (AFE) to ferroelectric (FE) state. Here, a phase coexistence configuration of an orthorhombic AFE phase and a tetragonal-like (T-like) phase is reported in epitaxial antiferroelectric PZO thin films, with thickness ranging from 16 to 110 nm.

The integration of spin crossover (SCO) magnetic switching and electric polarization properties can engender intriguing correlated magnetic and electric phenomena. However, achieving substantial SCO-induced polarization change through rational molecular design remains a formidable challenge. Herein, we present a polar Fe(II) compound that exhibits substantial polarization change in response to a thermally regulated low-spin ↔ high-spin transition.

Conjugated ladder polymers (CLPs) are difficult yet captivating synthetic targets due to their fully unsaturated fused backbones. Inherent challenges associated with their synthesis often lead to low yields, structural defects, and insoluble products. Here a new method to form CLPs is demonstrated, utilizing a high-yielding dimerization of annulated zirconacyclopentadienes to form cyclooctatetraene (COT) monomer units.

Distinct from the traditional bandgap or total internal reflection cavity modes, the unique photonic localization mechanism leads to an unusual algebraic decay of state and a unique frequency located beyond any bandgaps. This investigation delves into the band structure analysis of 2D metallic PCs, specifically focusing on their distinctive features, such as photonic bandgaps and Dirac cones.
