The Third Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, Shanxi Bethune Hospital, Shanxi Academy of Medical Sciences, Tongji Shanxi Hospital,Taiyuan 030000, Shanxi Province, China.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical characteristics and risk factors of infections occurring during hospitalization in patients with multiple myeloma(MM) treated with new generation therapies (including immuno- modulatory drugs, proteasome inhibitors and monoclonal antibodies).

Methods: The clinical data were collected from 155 patients with multiple myeloma who were treated in Shanxi Bethune Hospital from March, 2017 to March, 2022 and were retrospectively analyzed. For this study, the following therapies were considered to be new generation therapies: lenalidomide, pomadomide, bortezomib, ixazomib, daratumumab.

In vitro to clinical efficacy: Neutralizing antibodies against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 strains.

J Infect Chemother

December 2024

Department of Infectious Diseases, Hiroshima University Hospital, 1-2-3 Kasumi, Minamiku, Hiroshima 734-8551, Japan. Electronic address:

Introduction: Neutralizing antibodies have been approved for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) treatment; however, no study has clarified the link among their neutralizing effect in vitro, the period of infectious virus shedding, and symptoms in the acute phase. Here, we aimed to assess the duration of virus shed and fever in patients with mild COVID-19 stratified by their characteristics and type of neutralizing antibody administered.

Methods: We evaluated the efficacy of neutralizing antibodies in terms of the duration of infectious virus excretion and fever in three groups: patients infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Delta strain treated with REGEN-CoV2 (REGN-CoV2 group) and patients infected with Omicron strain treated with S309 (S309 group) or untreated (untreated group).

Histone deacetylases synergistically regulate juvenile hormone signaling in the yellow fever mosquito, Aedes aegypti.

Insect Biochem Mol Biol

December 2024

Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky 40546, USA. Electronic address:

Controlling Aedes aegypti mosquitoes is crucial for managing mosquito-transmitted diseases like dengue, zika, chikungunya, and yellow fever. One of the efficient methods to control mosquitoes is to block their progression from the larval to the adult stage. Juvenile hormones (JH) maintain the larval stage and ensure proper developmental timing for transitioning from larval-pupal-adult stages.

Ebola virus (EBOV) causes severe human disease. During late infection, EBOV virions are on the skin's surface; however, the permissive skin cell types and the route of virus translocation to the epidermal surface are unknown. We describe a human skin explant model and demonstrate that EBOV infection of human skin via basal media increases in a time-dependent and dose-dependent manner.
