Clinical and molecular characteristics of KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae bloodstream infections: results of a multicentre study.

J Glob Antimicrob Resist

January 2025

Infectious Disease Clinic, Dept. Of Biomedical Sciences and Public Health, Polytechnic University of Marche, Ancona, Italy; Infectious Disease, Azienda Sanitaria Pesaro-Urbino, Pesaro, Italy.

Objectives: KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (KPC-Kp) is a great cause of concern and it is often associated with bloodstream infections (BSIs) and a high mortality rate. We identified the risk factors of KPC-Kp BSIs observed in three Italian hospitals and studied the epidemiology of KPC-Kp strains.

Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of KPC-Kp BSIs from 2014 to 2019 in three hospitals in Central Italy (Ancona, Pesaro-Fano, and Perugia).

Piezoresistive Cantilever Microprobe with Integrated Actuator for Contact Resonance Imaging.

Sensors (Basel)

January 2025

Institute of Semiconductor Technology (IHT), Technische Universität Braunschweig, Hans-Sommer-Straße 66, 38106 Braunschweig, Germany.

A novel piezoresistive cantilever microprobe (PCM) with an integrated electrothermal or piezoelectric actuator has been designed to replace current commercial PCMs, which require external actuators to perform contact-resonance imaging (CRI) of workpieces and avoid unwanted "forest of peaks" observed at large travel speed in the millimeter-per-second range. Initially, a PCM with integrated resistors for electrothermal actuation (ETA) was designed, built, and tested. Here, the ETA can be performed with a piezoresistive Wheatstone bridge, which converts mechanical strain into electrical signals by boron diffusion in order to simplify the production process.

Manipulating Fano Coupling in an Opto-Thermoelectric Field.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

January 2025

Materials Science & Engineering Program and Texas Materials Institute, The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX, 78712, USA.

Fano resonances in photonics arise from the coupling and interference between two resonant modes in structures with broken symmetry. They feature an uneven and narrow and tunable lineshape and are ideally suited for optical spectroscopy. Many Fano resonance structures have been suggested in nanophotonics over the last ten years, but reconfigurability and tailored design remain challenging.

Outcomes and prognostic indicators in daratumumab-refractory multiple myeloma: a multicenter real-world study of elotuzumab, pomalidomide, and dexamethasone in 247 patients.

ESMO Open

January 2025

Department of Onco-hematology, Hematology Unit, Azienda Ospedaliera Annunziata, Cosenza, Italy; Department of Pharmacy, Health and Nutritional Science, University of Calabria, Rende, Italy. Electronic address:

Background: Daratumumab-refractory multiple myeloma (Dara-R MM) presents a significant treatment challenge. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and survival outcomes of elotuzumab, pomalidomide, and dexamethasone (EloPd) in a large, real-world cohort of patients with Dara-R MM, with particular focus on progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS).

Materials And Methods: This retrospective analysis included 247 Dara-R MM patients treated with EloPd.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on access to mental health services and socioeconomic inequalities in Italy.

Front Psychiatry

December 2024

Epidemiology Unit, National Institute for Health, Migration and Poverty, Istituto Nazionale per la promozione della salute delle popolazioni Migranti e per il contrasto delle malattie della Povertà (INMP), Rome, Italy.

Objective: Comprehensive evidence on the impact of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on the use of mental health services is scarce. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the access to mental health services in Italy and to assess the socioeconomic and citizenship inequalities for the same outcome.

Methods: A population-based longitudinal open cohort of residents aged ≥ 10 years was established in three large centers covering about 6 million beneficiaries (nearly 10% of the entire population) of the Italian National Health Service (NHS) from 01 January 2018 to 31 December 2021.
