An automated micro-tweezers system with a flexible workspace would benefit the intelligent sorting of live cells. Such micro-tweezers could employ a forced vortex strong enough to capture a single cell. Furthermore, addressable control of the position to the vortex would constitute a robotic system.

Objectives: As is well known, plaque morphology plays an important role in the hemodynamics of stenotic coronary arteries, thus their clinic outcomes. However, so far, there has been no research on how the cross-sectional shape of a stenotic lumen affects its hemodynamics. Therefore, this study aims to explore the impact of plaque cross-sectional shape on coronary hemodynamics under mild or moderate stenosis conditions (diameter stenosis degree ≤50 %).

To achieve logic operations via Majorana braiding, positional control of the Majorana bound states (MBSs) must be established. Here we report the observation of a striped surface charge order coexisting with superconductivity and its interaction with the MBS in the topological superconductor 2M-WS, using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy. By applying an out-of-plane magnetic field, we observe that MBSs are absent in vortices in the region with stripe order.

Solar driven energetic particle precipitation (EPP) is an important factor in polar atmospheric ozone balance and has been linked to ground-level regional climate variability. However, the linking mechanism has remained ambiguous. The observed and simulated ground-level changes start well before the processes from the main candidate, the so-called EPP-indirect effect, would start.

Chiral vortices and their phase transition in ferroelectric/dielectric heterostructures have drawn significant attention in the field of condensed matter. However, the dynamical origin of the chiral phase transition from achiral to chiral polar vortices has remained elusive. Here, we develop a phase-field perturbation model and discover the softening of out-of-plane vibration mode of polar vortices in [(PbTiO)/(SrTiO)] superlattices at a critical epitaxial strain or temperature.
