Significant progress has been made in the last two decades in producing small (<2μm), high-purity, and low-adsorption particles, columns and system hardware, for ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography (UHPLC). Simultaneously, the recent rapid expansion of cell and gene therapies for treating diseases necessitates novel analytical technologies for analyzing large (>2 kbp) plasmid double-stranded (ds) DNA (which encodes for the in vitro transcription (IVT) of single-stranded (ss) mRNA therapeutics) and dsRNAs (related to IVT production impurities) biopolymers. In this context, slalom chromatography (SC), a retention mode co-discovered in 1988, is being revitalized using the most advanced column technologies for improved determination of the critical quality attributes (CQAs) of such new therapeutics.

A notable feature of systems with non-Hermitian skin effects is the sensitivity to boundary conditions. In this work, we introduce one type of boundary condition provided by a coupling impurity. We consider a system where a two-level system as an impurity couples to a nonreciprocal Su-Schrieffer-Heeger chain under periodic boundary conditions at two points with asymmetric couplings.

Janus materials, a novel class of materials with two faces of different chemical compositions and electronic polarities, offer significant potential for various applications with catalytic reactions, chemical sensing, and optical or electronic responses. A key aspect for such functionalities is face-dependent electronic bipolarity, which is usually limited by the chemical distinction of terminated surfaces and has not been exploited in the semiconducting regime. Here, it is showed that a Janus and Kagome van der Waals (vdW) material NbTeI has ferroelectric-like coherent stacking of the Janus layers and hosts strong electronic bipolar states in the semiconducting regime.

Chirality-induced spin selectivity (CISS) generates giant spin polarization in transport through chiral molecules, paving the way for novel spintronic devices and enantiomer separation. Unlike conventional transport, CISS magnetoresistance (MR) violates Onsager's reciprocal relation, exhibiting significant resistance changes when reversing electrode magnetization at zero bias. However, its underlying mechanism remains unresolved.

Messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines and therapeutics hold immense potential for a wide range of clinical applications. However, the in vitro transcription (IVT) process used to synthesize mRNA also results in the generation of a by-product, double-stranded RNA (dsRNA), which can trigger innate immune activation and reduce translation activity. Although various efforts have been made to optimize IVT synthesis to minimize dsRNA formation, dsRNA impurities still cannot be fully resolved.
