The photoluminescence spectrum of a single-layer boron nitride remains elusive, marked by enigmatic satellites that hint at significant but unidentified exciton-phonon coupling. Here, by employing a first-principles approach based on the many-body cumulant expansion of the charge response, we calculate the optical absorption and photoluminescence of a single-layer boron nitride. We identify the specific exciton-phonon scattering channels and unravel their impact on the optical absorption and photoluminescence spectra, thereby providing an interpretation of the experimental features.

The layered, air-stable van der Waals antiferromagnetic compound CrSBr exhibits pronounced coupling among its optical, electronic, and magnetic properties. As an example, exciton dynamics can be significantly influenced by lattice vibrations through exciton-phonon coupling. Using low-temperature photoluminescence spectroscopy, we demonstrate the effective coupling between excitons and phonons in nanometer-thick CrSBr.

The emergence of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconductors has revolutionized the advancement of next-generation power, radio frequency, and opto- electronics, paving the way for chargers, renewable energy inverters, 5G base stations, satellite communications, radars, and light-emitting diodes. However, the thermal boundary resistance at semiconductor interfaces accounts for a large portion of the near-junction thermal resistance, impeding heat dissipation and becoming a bottleneck in the devices' development. Over the past two decades, many new ultrahigh thermal conductivity materials have emerged as potential substrates, and numerous novel growth, integration, and characterization techniques have emerged to improve the TBC, holding great promise for efficient cooling.

Moiré superlattices of two-dimensional heterostructures arose as a new platform to investigate emergent behaviour in quantum solids with unprecedented tunability. To glean insights into the physics of these systems, it is paramount to discover new probes of the moiré potential and moiré minibands, as well as their dependence on external tuning parameters. Hydrostatic pressure is a powerful control parameter, since it allows to continuously and reversibly enhance the moiré potential.

The structural evolution with pressure of icy mixtures of simple molecules is a poorly explored field despite the fundamental role they play in setting the properties of the crustal icy layer of the outer planets and of their satellites. Water and ammonia are the two major components of these mixtures, and the crystal properties of the two pure systems and of their compounds have been studied at high pressures in a certain detail. On the contrary, the study of their heterogeneous crystalline mixtures whose properties, due to the strong N-H⋯O and O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, can be substantially altered with respect to the individual species has so far been overlooked.
