People with symptomatic lower extremity peripheral artery disease (PAD) suffer from severe leg pain, walking impairment, and reduced quality of life, but few effective treatments are available. Emerging evidence suggests that regular heat therapy (HT) may improve cardiovascular and physical function in patients with PAD. However, the lack of accessible, practical modalities for unsupervised HT, especially for elderly individuals, has hindered clinical implementation.

Effective vaccines are urgently needed for the control of tuberculosis (TB). Here, we report that an mRNA TB vaccine is highly effective and exhibits both prophylactic and therapeutic activity in the zebrafish model of TB. Adult zebrafish immunized with the mRNA vaccine survived significantly longer after challenge compared to those immunized with the DNA vaccine.

Small, stable biomedicines, like peptides and hormones, are already available on the market as spray dried formulations, however large biomolecules like antibodies and therapeutic enzymes continue to pose stability issues during the process. Stresses during solid-state formation are a barrier to formulation of large biotherapeutics as dry powders. Here, we explore an alternative avenue to protein stabilisation during the spray drying process, moving away from the use of excipients.
