Compound-Nucleus and Doorway-State Decays of β-Delayed Neutron Emitters ^{51,52,53}K.

Phys Rev Lett

July 2024

Sino-French Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Technology, Sun Yat-sen University, Zhuhai 519082, China.

We investigated decays of ^{51,52,53}K at the ISOLDE Decay Station at CERN in order to understand the mechanism of the β-delayed neutron-emission (βn) process. The experiment quantified neutron and γ-ray emission paths for each precursor. We used this information to test the hypothesis, first formulated by Bohr in 1939, that neutrons in the βn process originate from the structureless "compound nucleus.

The compound NbSn possess superconductivity at suitable temperatures, therefore, it is best suited to be used in the toroidal coils of superconducting magnets which holds the fusion plasma and confine it inside the reactor core. The neutron induced reaction cross-sections are required from threshold to 20MeV for different isotopes of Tin (Sn). Since limited data is available for the reactions with the Sn isotopes.

Previous explanations for the resonance behavior of (12)C+(12)C fusion at low energies were based on a nonresonant compound-nucleus background and an additional contribution from a series of resonances. This separation into "resonance" and "background" contributions of the cross section is artificial. We propose to explain this phenomenon through the impact on the cross section of the relatively large spacings and the narrow widths of (24)Mg compound levels in the corresponding excitation-energy region.

Coupled-channel calculation of nonelastic cross sections using a density-functional structure model.

Phys Rev Lett

November 2010

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, P.O. Box 808, L-414, Livermore, California 94551, USA.

A microscopic calculation of reaction cross sections for nucleon-nucleus scattering was performed by coupling the elastic channel to all particle-hole excitations in the target and one-nucleon pickup channels. The particle-hole states may be regarded as doorway states through which the flux flows to more complicated configurations, and subsequently to long-lived compound nucleus resonances. Target excitations for (40,48)Ca, 58Ni, 90Zr, and 144Sm were described in a random-phase framework using a Skyrme functional.

College of Biotechnology, Tianjin University of Science and Technology, Tianjin 300457, People's Republic of China.

The title compound, digoxigenone, C(23)H(30)O(5)·H(2)O, was biotransformed from digoxigenin. In the crystal, inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds contribute to the formation of a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure. The title compound has three fused six-membered rings (A,B,C) and two non-fused five-membered rings (D,E).
