Ductilization of 2.6-GPa alloys via short-range ordered interfaces and supranano precipitates.

Higher strength and higher ductility are desirable for structural materials. However, ultrastrong alloys inevitably show decreased strain-hardening capacity, limiting their uniform elongation. We present a supranano (<10 nanometers) and short-range ordering design for grain interiors and grain boundary regions, respectively, in fine-grained alloys based on vanadium, cobalt, and nickel, with additions of tungsten, copper, aluminum, and boron.

GCTransNet: 3D mitochondrial instance segmentation based on Global Context Vision Transformers.

J Struct Biol

Shenzhen Bay Laboratory, Shenzhen 518132, China; Lingang Laboratory, Shanghai 200032, China. Electronic address:

Mitochondria are double membrane-bound organelles essential for generating energy in eukaryotic cells. Mitochondria can be readily visualized in 3D using Volume Electron Microscopy (vEM), and accurate image segmentation is vital for quantitative analysis of mitochondrial morphology and function. To address the challenge of segmenting small mitochondrial compartments in vEM images, we propose an automated mitochondrial segmentation method called GCTransNet.

Polyoxometalates (POMs) are composed of nanometric metal-oxide anions and have rich solution chemistry. In this class, Keggin POMs have been identified as the most influential inorganic additives for aqueous nonionic soft matter systems. POMs being at the borderline of classical ions and charged colloids possess fascinating solution properties; the present work aims to delve deeper into the interactions between nanoions and nonionic soft matters from a spectroscopic point of view.

Coal-bearing soils (CBS), products of coal-bearing strata weathering, are particularly prone to disintegration due to the effects of dry-wet cycles. Static water disintegration tests, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM), and mineral chemical composition analyses were conducted on CBS. The disintegration evolution of CBS is characterized by granularity entropy and is analyzed concerning the disintegration ratio.

Due to its thermal stability, and high viscosity, proso millet starch has limited practical applications. Extrusion can alter the functional properties of starch by pre-gelatinization, but the specific effects of extrusion temperature on starch behavior are not clear. In this study, proso millet starch was modified using extrusion at varying temperatures (70 °C, 90 °C, 110 °C), and its structure as well as physicochemical properties were evaluated.
