Despite the evident benefits of spectral computed tomography (CT) in delivering qualitative imaging superior to that of conventional CT in adults, its application in pediatric diagnostic imaging is still relatively limited due to various reasons, including design limitations and radiation dose considerations. The use of specialized K-edge filters, in conjunction with other spectral technologies, has been demonstrated to improve spectral quantification accuracy. X-ray flux limitations generally pose challenges in these concepts when applied to adults.

The demand for medical imaging with reduced patient dosage and higher resolution is growing, driving the need for advanced X-ray detection technologies. This paper proposes a design paradigm for X-ray detection semiconductors by coupling constituent motifs through crystal structure engineering. The study introduces a strongly anisotropic Aurivillius-type quasi-2D perovskite structure, combining [BiO] groups with stereochemically active lone pair electrons (SCALPEs) and [W/MoO] anionic groups, enabling enhanced X-ray Compton scattering and self-powered capabilities through local electric field ordering.

Radioactive cesium released into the atmosphere caused by the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident in March 2011 has contaminated the surrounding area. We confirmed the applicability of in-situ methods to evaluate the depth distribution of Cs by employing the ratio of Compton-scattering and photo-peak components (r) obtained from measured gamma-ray spectra. In the present study, we applied the in-situ method to farmlands in Fukushima Prefecture whose sites were disturbed by decontamination and plowing operations.

The development and calibration of a measurement system designed for assessing the performance of the avalanche photodiodes (APDs) used in the Compton scattering polarimeter of the CUSP project is discussed in this work. The designed system is able to characterize the APD gain GAPD and energy resolution across a wide range of temperatures (from -20 °C to +60 °C) and bias voltages Vbias (from 260 V to 410 V). The primary goal was to experimentally determine the GAPD dependence on the and Vbias in order to establish a strategy for stabilizing GAPD by compensating for fluctuations, acting on Vbias.
