Article Synopsis
  • Zhaotong pigs (ZTPs) are an indigenous breed from Yunnan, China, notable for their unique features, high-quality meat, and adaptability, but genetic research on them is limited.
  • Through resequencing 30 ZTPs and comparing them with 10 Asian wild boars, researchers found that ZTPs have higher genetic diversity and lower inbreeding coefficients, indicating a distinct population independent of AWBs.
  • The study also identified 1104 selected regions and 275 candidate genes linked to traits such as fat deposition, reproduction, growth, tooth development, and immune response, setting a foundation for future breeding and conservation efforts for ZTPs.

VSCF/VCI theory based on the Podolsky Hamiltonian.

J Chem Phys

June 2024

Institute for Theoretical Chemistry, University of Stuttgart, Pfaffenwaldring 55, 70569 Stuttgart, Germany.

While the vibrational spectra of semi-rigid molecules can be computed on approaches relying on the Watson Hamiltonian, floppy molecules or molecular clusters are better described by Hamiltonians, which are capable of dealing with any curvilinear coordinates. It is the kinetic energy operator (KEO) of these Hamiltonians, which render the correlated calculations relying on them rather costly. Novel implementation of vibrational self-consistent field theory and vibrational configuration interaction theory on the basis of the Podolsky Hamiltonian are reported, in which the inverse of the metric tensor, i.

Genomic Selection for Live Weight in the 14th Month in Alpine Merino Sheep Combining GWAS Information.

Animals (Basel)

November 2023

Key Laboratory of Animal Genetics and Breeding on Tibetan Plateau, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Lanzhou Institute of Husbandry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Lanzhou 730050, China.

Alpine Merino Sheep is a novel breed reared from Australian Merino Sheep as the father and Gansu Alpine Fine-Wool Sheep as the mother, living all year in cold and arid alpine areas with exceptional wool quality and meat performance. Body weight is an important economic trait of the Alpine Merino Sheep, but there is limited research on identifying the genes associated with live weight in the 14th month for improving the accuracy of the genomic prediction of this trait. Therefore, this study's sample comprised 1310 Alpine Merino Sheep ewes, and the Fine Wool Sheep 50K Panel was used for genome-wide association study (GWAS) analysis to identify candidate genes.

Using an OpenMP Application Programming Interface, the resolution-of-the-identity second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation (RI-MP2) method has been off-loaded onto graphical processing units (GPUs), both as a standalone method in the GAMESS electronic structure program and as an electron correlation energy component in the effective fragment molecular orbital (EFMO) framework. First, a new scheme has been proposed to maximize data digestion on GPUs that subsequently linearizes data transfer from central processing units (CPUs) to GPUs. Second, the GAMESS Fortran code has been interfaced with GPU numerical libraries (e.

Since Washburn's New Physical Anthropology, researchers have sought to understand the complexities of morphological evolution among anatomical regions in human and non-human primates. Researchers continue, however, to preferentially use comparative and functional approaches to examine complex traits, but these methods cannot address questions about evolutionary process and often conflate function with fitness. Moreover, researchers also tend to examine anatomical elements in isolation, which implicitly assumes independent evolution among different body regions.
