Observation of the Generalized Kerker Effect Mediated by Quasi-Bound States in the Continuum.

Nano Lett

January 2025

Department of Photoelectric Information Science and Engineering, School of Science, Jiangnan University, Wuxi 214122, China.

The generalized Kerker effect (GKE) arising from the interference of high-order multipoles has attracted more interest due to its direct correlation with various functionalities in nanophotonics. The realization of the GKE at oblique incidence is highly desired yet remains underexplored. Herein, we report the experimental observation of the GKE by leveraging quasi-bound states in the continuum (QBICs) supported by a silicon metasurface.

Semiconducting halide perovskite nanoparticles support Mie-type resonances that confine light on the nanoscale in localized modes with well-defined spatial field profiles yet unknown near-field dynamics. We introduce an interferometric scattering-type near-field microscopy technique to probe the local electric field dynamics at the surface of a single MAPbI nanoparticle. The amplitude and phase of the coherent light scattering from such modes are probed in a broad spectral range and with high spatial resolution.

Simulation of Space Charge Effects in Fourier Transform Quadrupole Ion Traps (FT-QITs).

J Am Soc Mass Spectrom

December 2024

Department of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry, University of Wuppertal, Gaussstraße 20, 42119 Wuppertal, Germany.

We present ion dynamics simulations regarding the effect of space charge on the performance of Fourier transform quadrupole ion traps (FT-QITs) with special attention to signal stability, mass resolving power, and sensitivity. Ion trajectory simulations within an idealized QIT geometry are performed by applying a dedicated application (QITSim) using an in-house developed open simulation framework (IDSimF). Image current detection transients are generated by the application and are subsequently transformed into frequency spectra of ion secular motion.

We theoretically study the second-harmonic generation (SHG) of two-dimensional (2D) materials excited by a Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beam at normal incidence and provide a method to distinguish SHG induced by the electric dipole (ED) interaction and SHG induced by the electric quadrupole and magnetic dipole (EQ-MD) interaction by their different dependence on the LG beam parameters, including the effective spot area 02 and the order of orbital angular momentum (OAM) m. In an approximation of neglecting reflection and taking a beam radius to infinity, the intensity of the ED induced SHG is proportional to /02 with F = 2(2|m|)!/(π(|m|!)), while the EQ-MD induced one is proportional to (4||+2) /04. An in-plane isotropic substrate can strongly affect the signal amplitude but slightly change the v and m dependence.

We consider the operation of a digital linear ion trap with resonance radial ejection and mass selective instability modes. Periodic wave shape has a positive part with amplitude and duration and negative part with amplitude and duration , where is the period. The mapping of the stability diagram, calculations of the well's depth and ion oscillations spectra are presented.
