The assessment of the concentration and distribution of l6N, derived from 16O in the cooling water exposed to neutron irradiation, is essential for ensuring radiation safety during nuclear reactor operation. The imaging method allows for the visualization of the intensity distribution of these l6N by capturing gamma-rays emitted during their decay process. However, the existing gamma camera is exclusively compatible with gamma-rays below 2 MeV.

We have found two refractory inclusions in the CO3.00 carbonaceous chondrite Dominion Range (DOM) 08006 that appear to be primary condensates from the early solar nebula. One, inclusion 56-1, contains the first four phases predicted to form by equilibrium gas-solid condensation: corundum; hibonite; grossite; and perovskite.

Ancient feeding ecology inferred from stable isotopic evidence from fossil horses in South America over the past 3 Ma.

BMC Ecol

June 2011

INCUAPA, Universidad Nacional del Centro. Del Valle 5737, B7400JWI Olavarría, Argentina.

Background: Stable isotope ratios (13C/12C and 18O/16O) in fossil teeth and bone provide key archives for understanding the ecology of extinct horses during the Plio-Pleistocene in South America; however, what happened in areas of sympatry between Equus (Amerhippus) and Hippidion is less understood.

Results: Here, we use stable carbon and oxygen isotopes preserved in 67 fossil tooth and bone samples for seven species of horses from 25 different localities to document the magnitude of the dietary shifts of horses and ancient floral change during the Plio-Pleistocene. Dietary reconstructions inferred from stable isotopes of both genera of horses present in South America document dietary separation and environmental changes in ancient ecosystems, including C3/C4 transitions.

Cupric siliconiobate. Synthesis and solid-state studies of a pseudosandwich-type heteropolyanion.

Inorg Chem

September 2008

Sandia National Laboratories, P.O. Box 5800, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87185, USA.

The Na (+) and [Cu(en) 2(H 2O) 2] (2+) (en = ethylenediamine) salt of a pseudosandwich-type heteropolyniobate forms upon prolonged heating of Cu(NO 3) 2 and hydrated Na 14[(SiOH) 2Si 2Nb 16O 54] in a mixed water-en solution. The structure [ a = 14.992(2) A, b = 25.

18O labeling method for identification and quantification of succinimide in proteins.

Anal Chem

April 2007

Department of Pharmaceutics, Amgen, Inc., Thousand Oaks, California 91320, USA.

We have developed a new method for identification and quantification of succinimide in proteins. The method utilizes 18O water to monitor succinimide hydrolysis. 18O-labeled isoaspartic acid and aspartic acid peptides were produced by hydrolysis of a succinimide-containing protein in 18O water (H218O) followed by tryptic digestion in regular water (H216O).
