Purpose: The assessment of lactate threshold (LT) and its relationship to open-water (OW) performance is crucial. This study aimed (1) to analyze LT in world-class OW swimmers, (2) to compare swimming speed at LT (SSLT) and 4 mmol·L-1 of blood lactate concentration ([La-]; SS4), and (3) to examine the relationships between SSLT and swimming performance.

Methods: Twenty world-class and elite (11 male, 26.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is the sleep disorder most frequently found in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). The intermittent hypoxia (IH) caused by OSA may participate in AD pathogenesis through increase in oxidative damage and inflammation. We aimed to identify inflammatory and redox genes differentially expressed in the blood from AD patients with severe OSA compared with those with nonsevere OSA.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Newcastle University, Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, UK.

Background: Digital mobility outcomes (DMOs) can be captured using body-worn inertial measurement units (IMUs) in lab-based and real-world environments. DMOs may support differential diagnosis of dementia; for example, Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Lewy body disease (LBD) show unique signatures of gait impairment. Growing evidence suggests that turning impairments are related to cognitive decline.

Aims: According to the 2023 International Consensus, glucose metrics derived from two-week-long continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) can be extrapolated up to 90 days before. However, no studies have focused on adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) on multiple daily injections (MDIs) and with second-generation intermittently scanned CGM (isCGM) sensors in a real-world setting.

Methods: This real-world, retrospective study included 539 90-day isCGM data from 367 adults with T1D on MDI therapy.
