Altered neural signaling in fibromyalgia syndrome (FM) was investigated with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). We employed a novel fMRI network analysis method, Structural and Physiological Modeling (SAPM), which provides more detailed information than previous methods. The study involved brain fMRI data from participants with FM (N = 22) and a control group (HC, N = 18), acquired during a noxious stimulation paradigm.

Accurate classification of tropical cyclone (TC) tracks is essential for evaluating and mitigating the potential disaster risks associated with TCs. In this study, three commonly used methods (K-means, Fuzzy C-Means, and Self-Organizing Maps) are assessed for clustering historical TC tracks that originated in the South China Sea from 1949 to 2023. The results show that the K-means method performs the best, while the Fuzzy C-Means and Self-Organizing Maps methods are also viable alternatives.

Bacteria play a crucial role in biodegradation of recalcitrant endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs), such as bisphenol A (BPA). However, in-situ identification of BPA-degrading bacteria remains technically challenging. Herein, we employed a conventional plating isolation (PI) and a new single cell Raman spectroscopy coupled with stable isotope probing (Raman-SIP) approach to enrich and identify BPA-degrading bacteria from activated sludge (AS).

Heat loss across the beak is an important thermoregulatory mechanism among birds, particularly in large-beaked taxa such as toucans (Ramphastidae) and hornbills (Bucerotidae). The number of species investigated remains limited, as does our understanding of how the functional significance of this pathway varies with environmental variables such as humidity, with little previous research on species inhabiting humid environments. We used infrared thermography to test the hypothesis that large (600-1300 g) Afrotropical forest hornbills use their beaks and casques as thermal radiators.
