Objectives: To explore the role of berberine (BBR) in ameliorating coronary endothelial cell injury in Kawasaki disease (KD) by regulating the complement and coagulation cascade.

Methods: Human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAEC) were divided into a healthy control group, a KD group, and a BBR treatment group (=3 for each group). The healthy control group and KD group were supplemented with 15% serum from healthy children and KD patients, respectively, while the BBR treatment group received 15% serum from KD patients followed by the addition of 20 mmol/L BBR.

Background: Neuroblastoma (NB) is a highly heterogeneous and common pediatric malignancy with a poor prognosis. Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent cell death pathway, may play a crucial role in NB tumor progression and immune response. This study aimed to investigate ferroptosis in NB to identify potential therapeutic targets and develop predictive models for prognosis and recurrence.

Background: Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor among women, with an increasing incidence each year. The subtypes of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative breast cancer, classified as HER2-low and HER2-zero based on HER2 receptor expression, show differences in clinical characteristics, therapeutic approaches, and prognoses. Distinguishing between these subtypes is clinically valuable as it can impact treatment strategies, including the use of next-generation antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) targeting HER2-low tumors.

Differential recruitment drives pathogen-mediated competition between species in an amphibian chytridiomycosis system.

Pathogens that infect multiple host species have an increased capacity to cause extinctions through parasite-mediated apparent competition. Given unprecedented and continuing losses of biodiversity due to Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd), the causative fungus of the amphibian skin disease chytridiomycosis, a robust understanding of the mechanisms driving cross-species infection dynamics is essential. Here, we used stage-structured, susceptible-infected compartmental models to explore drivers of Bd-mediated apparent competition between two sympatric amphibians, the critically endangered Litoria spenceri and the non-threatened Litoria lesueurii.

Background: Quality of life (QOL) is important for evaluating medical care outcomes. In chronic kidney disease (CKD) population, generic instruments, such as WHOQOL-BREF and EQ-5D, are commonly used for comparing various medical conditions for policy-making purposes. However, their psychometric properties have not yet been validated in non-dialysis CKD population.
