Chemotherapy resistance in cancer remains a barrier to curative therapy in advanced disease. Dosing of chemotherapy is often chosen based on the maximum tolerated dosing principle; drugs that are more toxic to normal tissue are typically given in on-off cycles, whereas those with little toxicity are dosed daily. When intratumoral cell-cell competition between sensitive and resistant cells drives chemotherapy resistance development, it has been proposed that adaptive chemotherapy dosing regimens, whereby a drug is given intermittently at a fixed-dose or continuously at a variable dose based on tumor size, may lengthen progression-free survival over traditional dosing.

Introduction: Human epidemiological studies suggest that heavy alcohol consumption may lead to earlier onset of Alzheimer's Disease (AD), especially in individuals with a genetic predisposition for AD. Alcohol-related brain damage (ARBD) during a critical developmental timepoint, such as adolescence, interacts with AD-related pathologies to accelerate disease progression later in life. The current study investigates if voluntary exercise in mid-adulthood can recover memory deficits caused by the interactions between adolescence ethanol exposure and AD-transgenes.

With less than half of the world's urban population having safely managed sanitation due to the high cost and difficulty of building sewers and treatment plants, many rely on off-grid options like pit latrines and septic tanks, which are hard to empty and often lead to illegal waste dumping; this research focuses on container-based sanitation (CBS) as an emerging off-grid solution. Off-grid sanitation refers to waste management systems that operate independently of centralized infrastructure and CBS is a service providing toilets that collect human waste in sealable containers, which are regularly emptied and safely disposed of. These data relate to a project investigating CBS in Kenya, Peru, and South Africa, focusing on how different user groups access and utilize sanitation - contrasting CBS with other types.
