Inhomogeneous media made of random configurations of coated circular cylinders are considered. The effective properties-wave number, mass density, bulk modulus-are discussed and illustrated. The effects of the volume fraction of the scatterers and surrounding fluid are also examined.

We investigate the orientational properties of a homogeneous and inhomogeneous tetrahedral four-patch fluid (Bol-Kern-Frenkel model). Using integral equations, either (i) HNC or (ii) a modified HNC scheme with a simulation input, the full orientational dependence of pair and direct correlation functions is determined. Density functionals for the inhomogeneous problem are constructed via two different methods.

Most cell types are mechanosensitive, their activities such as differentiation, proliferation and apoptosis, can be influenced by the mechanical environment through mechanical stimulation. In three dimensional (3D) mechanobiological in vitro studies, the porous structure of scaffold controls the local mechanical environment that applied to cells. Many previous studies have focused on the topological design of homogeneous scaffold struts.

Small-section steel-shell concrete immersed tube tunnels are intended for minibuses and have a low fire heat release rate. Standard fire rise curves do not apply to such tunnels. In this study, a coupled method of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and the finite element method (FEM) was used to simulate the structural temperature distribution in tunnels.

We developed a new sodium magnetic resonance fingerprinting (Na MRF) method for the simultaneous mapping of and sodium density with built-in (radiofrequency transmission inhomogeneities) and corrections (frequency offsets). We based our Na MRF implementation on a 3D FLORET sequence with 23 radiofrequency pulses. To capture the complex spin dynamics of the Na nucleus, the fingerprint dictionary was simulated using the irreducible spherical tensor operators formalism.
