The evolution of a lamellar mesophase from an initially disordered state under shear is examined using simulations of a mesoscale model based on a concentration field that distinguishes the hydrophilic and hydrophobic components. The Landau-Ginzburg free-energy functional is augmented by a term that is minimised for sinusoidal modulations in the concentration field with wavelength = (2π/), and the dynamical equations are the model H equations. The structure and rheology are determined by the relative magnitudes of the diffusion time for coarsening, (/) and the inverse of the strain rate , and the Ericksen number, which is the ratio of the shear stress and the layer stiffness.

The limit of validity of ordinary statistical mechanics and the pertinence of Tsallis statistics beyond it is explained considering the most probable evolution of complex systems processes. To this purpose we employ a dissipative Landau-Ginzburg kinetic equation that becomes a generic one-dimensional nonlinear iteration map for discrete time. We focus on the Renormalization Group (RG) fixed-point maps for the three routes to chaos.

α-Synuclein (αS) is the principal protein component of the Lewy body and Lewy neurite deposits that are found in the brains of the victims of one of the most prevalent neurodegenerative disorders, Parkinson's disease. αS can be qualified as a chameleon protein because of the large number of different conformations that it is able to adopt: it is disordered under physiological conditions in solution, in equilibrium with a minor α-helical tetrameric form in the cytoplasm, and is α-helical when bound to a cell membrane. Also, , αS forms polymorphic amyloid fibrils with unique arrangements of cross-β-sheet motifs.

A theory of Brownian motion is presented for an assembly of vortices. The attempt is motivated by a realization of Dyson's Coulomb gas in the context of quantum condensates. By starting with the time-dependent Landau-Ginzburg (LG) theory, the dynamics of the vortex gas is constructed, which is governed by the canonical equation of motion.

A three-dimensional model of the interaction between the charged or neutral domain walls and oxygen vacancies in the hexagonal manganite YMnOwas proposed, and simulated using Landau-Ginzburg-Devonshire (LGD) theory, dynamic diffusion equation and Maxwell's equation. The calculation proves that stiffness anisotropic factors can adjust the domain wall state and ultimately affect the distribution of oxygen vacancies. The head-to-head domain wall corresponds to low oxygen vacancy density, and the tail-to-tail domain wall corresponds to high oxygen vacancy density.
