In a recently published work, we introduced local Legendre polynomial fitting-based permutation entropy (LPPE) as a new complexity measure for quantifying disorder or randomness in time series. LPPE benefits from the ordinal pattern (OP) concept and incorporates a natural, aliasing-free multiscaling effect by design. The current work extends our previous study by investigating LPPE's capability to assess fatigue levels using both synthetic and real surface electromyography (sEMG) signals.

Punctuation is the main factor introducing correlations in natural language written texts and it crucially impacts their overall effectiveness, expressiveness, and readability. Punctuation marks at the end of sentences are of particular importance as their distribution can determine various complexity features of written natural language. Here, the sentence length variability (SLV) time series representing by Julio Cortázar are subjected to quantitative analysis with an attempt to identify their distribution type, long-memory effects, and potential multiscale patterns.

Braided channel networks exhibit a complex interplay between spatial and temporal dynamics. Their behavior is characterized by both simple and multiscaling patterns, and the mechanisms underlying the stochastic processes associated with this dynamics remain incompletely understood. Leveraging Taylor's pioneering work [Nature (London) 189, 732 (1961)NATUAS0028-083610.

Ordinal pattern-based approaches have great potential to capture intrinsic structures of dynamical systems, and therefore, they continue to be developed in various research fields. Among these, the permutation entropy (PE), defined as the Shannon entropy of ordinal probabilities, is an attractive time series complexity measure. Several multiscale variants (MPE) have been proposed in order to bring out hidden structures at different time scales.

Estimates suggest that more than 70% of the world's rangelands are degraded. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) is commonly used by ecologists and agriculturalists to monitor vegetation and contribute to more sustainable rangeland management. This paper aims to explore the scaling character of NDVI and NDVI anomaly (NDVIa) time series by applying three fractal analyses: generalized structure function (GSF), multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MF-DFA), and Hurst index (HI).
