Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) primarily affects the respiratory system but extrapulmonary manifestations, including the skin, have been well documented. However, transcriptomic profiles of skin lesions have not been performed thus far. Here, we present a single-cell RNA sequencing analysis in a patient with COVID-19 infection with a maculopapular skin rash while on treatment with the interleukin (IL)-12/IL-23 blocker ustekinumab for his underlying psoriasis.

The Interplay Between Replication Capacity of HIV-1 and Surrogate Markers of Disease.

J Infect Dis

September 2022

Division of Infectious Diseases and Hospital Epidemiology, University Hospital Zurich, University of Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland.

Background: HIV-1 replication capacity (RC) of transmitted/founder viruses may influence the further course of HIV-1 infection.

Methods: RCs of 355 whole-genome primary HIV-1 isolates derived from samples acquired during acute and recent primary HIV-1 infection (PHI) were determined using a novel high-throughput infection assay in primary cells. The RCs were used to elucidate potential factors that could be associated with RC during PHI.

The Rindler space-time describing a series of accelerating observers is Ricci flat, but it still has novel optical effects. In the case of Wenzel, Kramers, and Brillouin (WKB) approximation, we derive the light paths in the Rindler frame based on the covariant wave equation and geodesic equations. Then, we use ABCD matrix optics method to explore the propagation characteristics of Rindler frame, thus link three different optical transformation scenes (geometry, gravity, and vacuum refractive index) together.

Background: In early-stage mycosis fungoides (MF), the most common primary cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, limited skin involvement with patches and plaques is associated with a favorable prognosis. Nevertheless, approximately 20-30% of cases progress to tumors or erythroderma, resulting in poor outcome. At present, factors contributing to this switch from indolent to aggressive disease are only insufficiently understood.

The Transorbital Pericranial Flap.

World Neurosurg

August 2021

Department of Neurosurgery, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Electronic address:

Objective: The objective of the present study was to describe and evaluate the feasibility, mobility, and surface area provided by the simple and extended transorbital pericranial flap (TOPF). Furthermore, we compared this novel technique with the current practice of pericranial flap harvesting and insetting techniques. We also studied the adequacy of the TOPF in the reconstruction of postoperative anterior cranial fossa (ACF) defects.
