Prospects for discovering supersymmetric long-lived particles with MoEDAL.

Eur Phys J C Part Fields

We present a study on the possibility of searching for long-lived supersymmetric partners with the MoEDAL experiment at the LHC. MoEDAL is sensitive to highly ionising objects such as magnetic monopoles or massive (meta)stable electrically charged particles. We focus on prospects of directly detecting long-lived sleptons in a phenomenologically realistic model which involves an intermediate neutral long-lived particle in the decay chain.

A second-order supersymmetric transformation is presented, for the two-channel Schrödinger equation with equal thresholds. It adds a Breit-Wigner term to the mixing parameter, without modifying the eigenphase shifts, and modifies the potential matrix analytically. The iteration of a few such transformations allows a precise fit of realistic mixing parameters in terms of a Padé expansion of both the scattering matrix and the effective-range function.

We study the minimal gauged U(1) B-L supersymmetric model and show that it provides an attractive theory for spontaneous R-parity violation. Both U(1) B-L and R parity are broken by the vacuum expectation value of the right-handed sneutrino (proportional to the soft supersymmetry masses), thereby linking the B-L and soft SUSY scales. In this context we find a consistent mechanism for generating neutrino masses and a realistic mass spectrum, all without extending the Higgs sector of the minimal supersymmetry standard model.

We study possible correlations between properties of the observable and hidden sectors in heterotic string theory. Specifically, we analyze the case of the Z6-II orbifold compactification which produces a significant number of models with the spectrum of the supersymmetric standard model. We find that requiring realistic features does affect the hidden sector such that hidden sector gauge group factors SU(4) and SO(8) are favored.

Supersymmetric Langevin equation to explore free-energy landscapes.

Phys Rev E Stat Nonlin Soft Matter Phys

April 2007

Department of Chemistry, Rice University, 6100 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77005, USA.

The recently discovered supersymmetric generalizations of the Langevin dynamics and Kramers equation can be utilized for the exploration of free-energy landscapes of systems whose large time-scale separation hampers the usefulness of standard molecular dynamics techniques. The first realistic application is here presented. The system chosen is a minimalist model for a short alanine peptide exhibiting a helix-coil transition.
