The pursuit to operate photocathodes at high accelerating gradients to increase brightness of electron beams is gaining interests within the accelerator community, particularly for applications such as free electron lasers (FEL) and compact accelerators. Cesium telluride (CsTe) is a widely used photocathode material and it is presumed to offer resilience to higher gradients because of its wider band gap compared to other semiconductors. Despite its advantages, crucial material properties of CsTe remain largely unknown both in theory and experiments.

We report the features of spontaneous bilateral thyroid follicular cell carcinoma in a 10-year-old male beagle. Necropsy revealed bilateral masses on the trachea, corresponding to the left and right sides of the thyroid gland. The masses were elastic, encapsulated, and distinct, with no connecting tumor tissues between them.

Any experiment aiming to measure rare events, like Coherent Elastic neutrino-Nucleus Scattering (CE NS) or hypothetical Dark Matter scattering, via nuclear recoils in cryogenic detectors relies crucially on a precise detector calibration at sub-keV energies. The Crab collaboration developed a new calibration technique based on the capture of thermal neutrons inside the target crystal. Together with the Nucleus experiment, first measurements with a moderated Cf neutron source and a cryogenic detector were taken.

Understanding the interactions between transition metal atoms and molecules is important for the study of various related chemical and physical processes. In this study, we have investigated collisions between iron (Fe), iridium (Ir), and platinum (Pt) and the small molecules CH, O, and CO using a crossed-beam and time-sliced ion velocity map imaging technique. Elastic collisions were observed in all cases, except for collisions of Pt with O and CO.

Irradiation of condensed matter with ionizing radiation generally causes direct photoionization as well as secondary processes that often dominate the ionization dynamics. Here, large helium (He) nanodroplets with radius ≳ 40 nm doped with lithium (Li) atoms are irradiated with extreme ultraviolet (XUV) photons of energy hν ≥ 44.4 eV and indirect ionization of the Li dopants is observed in addition to direct photoionization of the He droplets.
