Inhalation of aerosolized uranium is recognized as a principal mode of exposure, posing significant risks of damage to the lungs, kidneys, and other vital organs. To enhance nuclide elimination from the body, chelating agents are employed; however, single-component chelators often exhibit limited spectral activity and low effectiveness, resulting in toxicologically relevant concentrations. We have developed a composite chelating agent composed of 3,4,3-Li(1,2-HOPO), DFP, and HEDP in optimized ratios, demonstrating marked improvements in eliminating inhaled uranium.

In this work, the phenomenological potential-driving model based on the random neck rupture model is used to calculate and evaluate the independent yields and cumulative yields of fission products for the mass/charge distribution in the U(n, f) reaction with an incident neutron energy of 0.5 MeV and 14 MeV. In particular, the energy dependence of independent yields, including Kr, Sr, Zr, Mo, Ru, Xe, Cs, Ba and Ce, is evaluated for an incident neutron energy below 20 MeV and compared with GEFY6.

Assessing the fate of contaminants in the environment requires a deep understanding of intrinsic adsorption mechanisms on natural minerals such as Fe-oxyhydroxides. In this study, we proposed an innovative approach to probe site heterogeneities on the goethite surface by comparing the adsorption behavior of rare earth elements (REEs, including Sc, Y, and all lanthanides; Ln) except Pm, as well as Th and U. A surface loading-dependent adsorption of Ln and Y was observed, with a shift from (i) preferential middle to heavy REE adsorption and (ii) limited to substantial fractionation between Y and Ho as the loading increased.

The synthesis of a Np(IV) polyoxomolybdate-alkoxide sandwich complex, (TBA)[Np{MoO(OMe)NO}] (TBA = tetrabutylammonium), is reported. This compound represents a rare example of a neptunium polyoxometalate cluster isolated outside of water, allowing for characterization of its electrochemical properties in nonaqueous solvents. Complexation of An(IV) cations fine-tunes the redox properties of the cluster, with the observed four reversible reductive events varying slightly both in potential and peak separation depending on the actinide present.
