Classically, the refractive index of a medium is due to a response on said medium from an electromagnetic field. It has been shown that a single two-level atom interacting with a single photon undergoes dispersion. The following extends that analyses to a three-level system interacting with two photons.

This paper proposes an advanced Load Frequency Control (LFC) strategy for two-area hydro-wind power systems, using a hybrid Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network combined with a Genetic Algorithm-optimized PID (GA-PID) controller. Traditional PID controllers, while extensively used, often face limitations in handling the nonlinearities and uncertainties inherent in interconnected power systems, leading to slower settling time and higher overshoot during load disturbances. The LSTM + GA-PID controller mitigates these issues by utilizing LSTM's capacity to learn from historical data by using gradient descent to forecast the future disturbances, while the GA optimizes the PID parameters in real time, ensuring dynamic adaptability and improved control precision.

Nonlinearity is a crucial characteristic for implementing hardware security primitives or neuromorphic computing systems. The main feature of all memristive devices is this nonlinear behavior observed in their current-voltage characteristics. To comprehend the nonlinear behavior, we have to understand the coexistence of resistive, capacitive, and inertia (virtual inductive) effects in these devices.

High-harmonic generation (HHG) is a nonlinear process in which a material sample is irradiated by intense laser pulses, causing the emission of high harmonics of incident light. HHG has historically been explained by theories employing a classical electromagnetic field, successfully capturing its spectral and temporal characteristics. However, recent research indicates that quantum-optical effects naturally exist or can be artificially induced in HHG, such as entanglement between emitted harmonics.

Using traditional machine learning (ML) methods may produce results that are inconsistent with the laws of physics. In contrast, physics-based models of complex physical, biological, or engineering systems incorporate the laws of physics as constraints on ML methods by introducing loss terms, ensuring that the results are consistent with these laws. However, accurately deriving the nonlinear and high order differential equations to enforce various complex physical laws is non-trivial.
