The rapid investment casting (RIC) process requires a 3D-printed pattern to create a ceramic mold. Stereolithography (SLA) is a commonly used 3D printing method for pattern creation due to its ability to print complex shapes with smooth surfaces. The printing parameters can significantly affect the dimensional accuracy of the pattern.

Background: The use of patient-specific instruments (PSIs) for osteotomies is becoming more popular in orthopaedic surgery for correcting mechanical axis and posttraumatic deformities. However, the PSI reduction guides have great potential for intraoperative deformation, which adversely affects the accuracy of the procedure.
Purpose: To conduct a finite element analysis (FEA) to analyze different design parameters to improve the intraoperative stability of the reduction guides.

A σ-hole is an electron-deficient region of positive electrostatic potential (ESP) opposite from a half-filled p orbital involved in forming a covalent bond. The σ-hole concept helps rationalize directional noncovalent interactions, known as σ-hole bonds, between covalently bonded group V-VII atoms and electron-pair donors. The magnitude and orientation of σ-holes are correlated with the strength and geometry of halogen bonds.

The failure of 3D-printed Polylactide (PLA) specimens with circular holes was studied under tensile and cyclic loading, respectively, by an inserted pin. Experiments were conducted for the perforated PLA specimens with various print angles from 0° to 90°, as well as [0°/90°]s and [0°/±45°/90°]s. The hole locations varied along the specimens.

The construction of ultrathin membranes from linearly aligned π-electron systems is advantageous for targeted energy, charge, or mass transfer. The Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique enables the creation of such membranes, especially with amphiphilic π-electron systems. However, these systems often aggregate, forming rigid Langmuir monolayers with defects or holes.
