Exposure to aromatic amines may occur tobacco smoke, hair dyes or tattoo inks, but also in the workplace during certain manufacturing processes. As some aromatic amines are known or suspected carcinogens, human biomonitoring (HBM) is essential to assess their exposure. Aromatic amines were among the selected chemicals in HBM4EU, a European-wide project to harmonise and advance HBM within 30 European countries.

Chemical hair dye components can have allergenic, reproductive, and carcinogenic risks. Detecting restricted and prohibited ingredients in these products is challenging due to product diversity, isomer separation, instability, and wide polarity range. A method was developed using HPLC-high-resolution mass spectrometry for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of 54 hair dye components in various products.

The production of keratinases was evaluated in submerged fermentation with Aspergillus niger and by pigs' swine hair in a batch bioreactor. Experimental planning was performed to assess the interaction between different variables. The enzyme extract produced was characterized at various pH and temperatures and subjected to enzyme concentration using a biphasic aqueous system and salt/solvent precipitation techniques.
