Electrochemical Ammonia Synthesis at -Block Active Sites Using Various Nitrogen Sources: Theoretical Insights.

J Phys Chem Lett

January 2025

School of Physics, State Key Laboratory of Crystal Materials, Shandong University, Jinan 250100, China.

Electrochemical nitrogen conversion for ammonia (NH) synthesis, driven by renewable electricity, offers a sustainable alternative to the traditional Haber-Bosch process. However, this conversion process remains limited by a low Faradaic efficiency (FE) and NH yield. Although transition metals have been widely studied as catalysts for NH synthesis through effective electron donation/back-donation mechanisms, there are challenges in electrochemical environments, including competitive hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and catalyst stability issues.

Mapping the Energy Carrier Diffusion Tensor in Perovskite Semiconductors.

ACS Nano

January 2025

Research Laboratory of Electronics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 77 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, Massachusetts 02139, United States.

Understanding energy transport in semiconductors is critical for the design of electronic and optoelectronic devices. Semiconductor material properties, such as charge carrier mobility or diffusion length, are commonly measured in bulk crystals and determined using models that describe transport behavior in homogeneous media, where structural boundary effects are minimal. However, most emerging semiconductors exhibit nano- and microscale heterogeneity.

Rational exploration of cost-effective, durable, and high-performance electrode materials is imperative for advancing the progress of capacitive deionization (CDI). The integration of multicomponent layered double hydroxides (LDHs) with conjugated conductive metal-organic frameworks (c-MOFs) to fabricate bifunctional heterostructure electrode materials is considered a promising strategy. Herein, the fabrication of hierarchical conductive MOF/LDH/CF nanoarchitectures (M-CAT/LDH/CF) as CDI anodes via a controllable grafted-growth strategy is reported.

Ultra-high electrostriction and ferroelectricity in poly (vinylidene fluoride) by 'printing of charge' throughout the film.

Nat Commun

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Advanced Design and Manufacturing Technology for Vehicle, College of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering, Hunan University, Changsha, China.

Electrostriction is an important electro-mechanical property in poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) films, which describes the proportional relation between the electro-stimulated deformation and the square of the electric field. Generally, traditional methods to improve the electrostriction of PVDF either sacrifice other crystalline-related key properties or only influence minimal regions around the surface. Here, we design a unique electret structure to fully exploit the benefits of internal crystal in PVDF films.
