The combination of nuclear and electron magnetic resonance techniques, in pulse and continuous wave regimes, is used to unravel the nature and features of the light-induced magnetic state arising at the surface of chemically prepared zinc oxide nanoparticles (NPs) occurring under 120 K when subjected to a sub-bandgap (405 nm) laser excitation. It is shown that the four-line structure observed around g ∼ 2.00 in the as-grown samples (beside the usual core-defect signal at g ∼ 1.

Paramagnetic metal hydride (PMH) complexes play important roles in catalytic applications and bioinorganic chemistry. 3d PMH chemistry has largely focused on Ti, Mn, Fe, and Co. Various Mn PMHs have been proposed as intermediates in catalysis, but isolated Mn PMHs are limited to dimeric high-spin Mn structures with bridging hydrides.

"Mixed-Valence Decatungstates" Revisited: Crystal Structure and Aqueous Solution Chemistry of [WO] and an ESR Study on Electron Delocalization.

A [PrNH]/Na-mixed salt of unprotonated two-electron-reduced decatungstate, [PrNH][WO]·(NaCl)HO (), is isolated from the photolyte obtained by the UV photolysis of the NaWO·2HO/[PrNH]Cl aqueous solution at pH 6.5 and characterized in the solid state (X-ray diffraction and elemental analysis) and solution (UV-vis absorption and electrochemistry). [WO], as a paramagnetic contaminant in the crystallite of diamagnetic , shows only a broadened singlet-like electron spin resonance (ESR) line around = 1.

In this paper, the nature of interactions between two cyanocarbons-tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) and fumaronitrile (FN)-and a series of four secondary amines possessing a general formula CHN (x = 5-11) is thoroughly scrutinized. For all of the TCNE-amine pairs, tricyanovinylation (TCV) reaction is observed; however, only for pyrrole, it is accompanied with a visible charge-transfer (CT) complex formation-no such chemical individuals, characteristic for TCNE, have been noticed for aliphatic and alicyclic amines. On the contrary, FN forms such complexes with all the amines studied.

Hyperfine Decoupling of ESR Spectra Using Wavelet Transform.

Magnetochemistry

March 2022

Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853, USA.

The objective of spectral analysis is to resolve and extract relevant features from experimental data in an optimal fashion. In continuous-wave (cw) electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy, both values of a paramagnetic center and hyperfine splitting caused by its interaction with neighboring magnetic nuclei in a molecule provide important structural and electronic information. However, in the presence of - and/or -anisotropy and/or large number of resonance lines, spectral analysis becomes highly challenging.
