Competition between spin-orbit interaction and electron correlations can stabilize a variety of non-trivial electronic and magnetic ground states. Using density functional theory calculations, here we show that different exotic electronic and magnetic ground states can be obtained by electron filling of the B-site cation in the NaBO family of compounds (B = Ta, Ir, Pt and Tl). Electron filling leads to a Peierls insulator state with a direct band gap to = 1/2 spin-orbit assisted Mott-insulator to band insulator and then to negative charge-transfer half-metal transition.

The random-magnetic-field classical Heisenberg model is solved in spatial dimensions d≥2 using the recently developed Fourier-Legendre renormalization-group theory for 4π steradians continuously orientable spins, with renormalization-group flows of 12 500 variables. The random-magnetic-field Heisenberg model is exactly solved in 10 hierarchical models, for d=2,2.26,2.

The topological Hall effect (THE) is the transport response of chiral spin textures and thus can serve as a powerful probe for detecting and understanding these unconventional magnetic orders. So far, the THE is only observed in either noncentrosymmetric systems where spin chirality is stabilized by Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions, or triangular-lattice magnets with Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida-type interactions. Here, a pronounced THE is observed in a Fe-Co-Ni-Mn chemically complex alloy with a simple face-centered cubic (fcc) structure across a wide range of temperatures and magnetic fields.

During cooling, conventional martensitic transformation can only be realized from austenite to martensite. Recently, a so-called reentrant martensitic transformation attracted much interest due to an additional transformation from martensite to austenite during further cooling. Obviously, materials with this reentrant transformation will increase the number of physical effects and possible applications.
