Background: Resistance to senescence in retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells can delay the progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). However, the mechanisms underlying RPE cell senescence remain inadequately understood, and effective therapeutic strategies are lacking. While astragaloside IV (Ast) has demonstrated anti-aging properties, its specific effects on RPE cell senescence and potential mechanisms are not yet fully clarified.

Seismic tomographic models based only on wave velocities have limited ability to distinguish between a thermal or compositional origin for Earth's 3D structure. Complementing wave velocities with attenuation observations can make that distinction, which is fundamental for understanding mantle convection evolution. However, global 3D attenuation models are only available for the upper mantle at present.

Mitochondrial dysfunction contributes to the pathology of hypoxia-ischemia (HI) brain damage by aberrant production of ROS. Hydrogen sulfide (HS) has been demonstrated to exert neuroprotective effects through antioxidant mechanisms. However, the diffusion of HS is not specifically targeted and may even be systemically toxic.

In the current work, three adsorbent materials were developed: biochar derived from date palm fiber (C), date palm fiber biochar/chitosan nanoparticles (CCS), and biochar/chitosan nanoparticle composite supplemented with glutamine (CCSG). These compounds were used as solid adsorbents to remove As from polluted water. Several characterization approaches were used to investigate all the synthesized solid adsorbents, including thermogravimetric analysis, N adsorption/desorption isotherm, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), attenuated total reflectance with Fourier transform infrared, and zeta potential.
