Background: The primary purpose of this study was to demonstrate the preventive effects of imatinib (IMA) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation in a mouse model of acute lung injury (ALI) and human umbilical vascular endothelial cells.

Methods: LPS stimulation for 24 h induced ALI and cell inflammation. The pathological results of the lungs were evaluated using the wet/dry weight ratio, pulmonary vascular permeability measurements, and myeloperoxidase immunohistochemistry.

Effect of texturization on microbial inactivation in UV-C treated orange juice: Predictive modeling and analysis of Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris physiological and morphological changes.

Int J Food Microbiol

Instituto de Tecnología de Alimentos y Procesos Químicos (ITAPROQ), CONICET-Universidad de Buenos Aires, Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, Departamento de Industrias, Ciudad Universitaria, Avenida Intendente Güiraldes 2160 (C1428EGA), Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Electronic address:

UV-C light is an alternative for preserving clear fruit-based drinks, replacing existing thermal treatments that degrade product quality and are ineffective against some microorganisms, including Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris, a spoiling agent of concern in the juice sector. Texturizing agents are essential since consumers' preferences for these products strongly depend on the mouthfeel. However, the complexity of the treated texturized system may have an essential influence on UV-C effectiveness.

Article Synopsis
  • A new series of 1,2,3-triazole benzenesulfonamide compounds (17a-l) was developed to inhibit the carbonic anhydrases CA IX and CA XII, showing strong anti-proliferative effects, particularly compounds 17e-h which outperformed the standard inhibitor acetazolamide.
  • These compounds exhibited selectivity, having lower inhibitory activity against the non-cancerous isoforms CA I and CA II, resulting in higher selectivity indices compared to acetazolamide, indicating a reduced impact on healthy cells.
  • In anti-proliferative tests on cancer cell lines (HEPG-2, MCF-7, and MDA-MB-231),

Synergy of oxygen reduction for HO production and electro-fenton induced by atomic hydrogen over a bifunctional cathode towards water purification.

Key Laboratory of Ecology and Environment in Minority Areas (Minzu University of China), National Ethnic Affairs Commission, Beijing 100081, China; College of Life and Environmental Sciences, Minzu University of China, Beijing 100081, China. Electronic address:

In the Electro-Fenton (EF) process, hydrogen peroxide (HO) is produced in situ by a two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (2e ORR), which is further activated by electrocatalysts to generate reactive oxygen specieces (ROS). However, the selectivity of 2e transfer from catalysts to O is still unsatisfactory, resulting in the insufficient HO availability. Carbon based materials with abundant oxygen-containing functional groups have been used as excellent 2e ORR electrocatalysts, and atomic hydrogen (H*) can quickly transfer one electron to HO in a wide pH range and avoiding the restrict of traditional Fenton reaction.

The Gas Phase Protonation Sites of Six Naturally Occurring Nicotinoids.

J Phys Chem Lett

July 2024

Department of Chemistry, School of Science, Tokyo Institute of Technology, 2-12-1 4259 Ookayama, Meguro-ku, Tokyo 152855, Japan.

The gas phase protonation sites of six naturally occurring nicotinoids, namely nicotine (NIC), nornicotine (NOR), anabasine (ANB), anatabine (ANT), cotinine (COT), and myosmine (MYO), consisting of a common Pyridine and differing -Pyridine rings, have been determined for the first time at the physiological temperature from cryogenic ion trap infrared spectroscopy and electronic structure calculations. The protonation site on either of these two rings is related to the nicotinoid's biological activity. At room temperature, NIC is a mixture of Pyridine and Pyrrolidine (-Pyridine) protomers, whereas NOR, ANB, ANT, and COT are pure Pyridine protomers and finally MYO is mostly a Pyroline (-Pyridine) protomer.
