Introduction: Choosing a medical specialty is a pivotal moment in a physician's career, shaped by personal interests, clinical experiences, and professional interactions. Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) offers a unique blend of surgical and medical care focused on women's health. Given the growing demand for OB-GYN specialists, understanding the factors that influence students' decisions is essential for workforce planning.

A hybrid B3LYP version of the Density Functional Theory was applied in full geometry optimization followed by vibrational analysis of mustard-type molecules acting as antiblood cancer agents: melphalan and bendamustine. All calculations were performed with water as a solvent. In addition to the ground-state properties (dipole moment, quadrupole moment, dipole polarizability, solvated surface and volume, zero-point vibration energy, total entropic term), properties that characterize adiabatic redox processes (ionization energy, electron affinity, molecular electronegativity, chemical hardness, electrophilicity index) together with the absolute oxidation and reduction potentials were evaluated.

Aim: There is an urgent need for new antimicrobial compounds with alternative modes of action for the treatment of drug-resistant bacterial and fungal pathogens.

Background: Carbohydrates and their derivatives are essential for biochemical and medicinal research because of their efficacy in the synthesis of biologically active drugs.

Objective: In the present study, a series of methyl α-D-mannopyranoside (MMP) derivatives (2-6) were prepared via direct acylation, and their biological properties were characterized.

Stature estimation based on the mandibular bone measurements using three-dimensional images from postmortem computed tomography in a Japanese population.

Leg Med (Tokyo)

December 2024

Department of Forensic Sciences, Akita University Graduate School of Medicine, Akita, Japan; Department of Forensic Medicine, Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine, Sendai, Japan. Electronic address:

We aimed to evaluate the correlation between cadaver stature and mandibular bone measurements using three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) images and develop a stature estimation formula for a Japanese population. In total, 307 and 72 identified cadavers who underwent postmortem CT were selected as the "training" and "validation" datasets, respectively, to derive a stature estimation formula. Four mandibular bone measurements (linear distances between the bilateral mandibular condyles: C-C, from the mental spine to the mandibular condyle: S-C, between the bilateral mandibular foramen: F-F, and from the mental spine to the mandibular foramen: S-F) were obtained from 3D CT-reconstructed images that included only the mandibular bone.

Cooperative Dynamics and Hydration of Aqueous D-Mannitol and -Inositol.

J Phys Chem B

January 2025

Institut für Physikalische und Theoretische Chemie, Universität Regensburg, D-93040 Regensburg, Germany.

The cooperative dynamics and hydration of D-mannitol and yo-inositol in aqueous solution at 25 °C were investigated by broad-band dielectric relaxation spectroscopy (DRS) for solute concentrations < 0.9M. The recorded spectra, covering the frequency range 0.
